Chapter 18

Adam: So the day I got to know that all my neighbors know about the drugs and mafia, I was scared. Not for myself but my family and neighbors. I never wanted to take drugs or join mafia, I was forced into it. Since the age of 7 my step mom used to force drugs into me. By the time I understood what was happening it was too late. No one knew that she was my step mom except me, my dad and my brothers. Everyone thought she was my real mother. My mother died giving birth to me and my twin which caused my elder brother to hate us. My step mom was a very cruel person and a gold digger. She manipulated my elder brother into drugs, mafia and other illegal stuff, in other words she made him an illegal earning machine.

Avu: Wait a minute, how did she get money for the drugs and how did she get access to the illegal stuff, you said she was a gold digger and very cruel. But how did she reach so far?

Adam: She had many external affairs that my father, twin and I were unaware of and at that time it was someone from mafia. She knew that it could spoil our whole lives so she made a deal with the mafia person who was the leader's son, who was handling the mafia with his father, to destroy our lives. She knew it would be difficult to manipulate me and my twin as we were really close to my father and would inform him everything. By the age of 16 I understood what she was doing to me and my brothers. One day I informed everything to our father but my elder brother heard me so he immediately informed our step mom. In front of us she killed our father. It affected me and my twin deeply but he wasn't affected by it a single bit as he was never attached much to dad plus he was so much involved those illegal stuff that he forgot everything and everyone, though it was not his fault completely. After 2-3 years step mom died in an accident which made me happy but also somewhere I felt that she didn't deserve to die, no one does. But again it didn't matter to my elder brother who wasn't the person I knew since childhood now. For once I thought that now she has gone everything will be fine, but no.  He was a completely emotionless person now, not my brother. But then came the worst part of my life. I was married. But he could not see my happiness. He wanted to take revenge of mom's death. He started blackmailing me using all my weakness including my wife. He forced me into drugs again which I had got rid of soon after my dad's death by going to rehab and a psychologist to keep me away from depression. He also forced me into the mafia whose next leader was him. I never killed anyone as even by seeing a gun I would faint or get ill. He stopped trying it. He started using me as his cover. Within a few months I was blessed with a baby girl. But I couldn't reveal about it to anyone as it could risk her life. But then one day I was caught in accident. Then my neighbors got to know few things about me and my brother got to know about it. So he kidnapped Ashnoor. And after he forced me to threaten them, then he allowed me to return Ashnoor which I did quickly. And then after a few days he killed my family in front of me. I was left with nothing. But then he did something which shook me to the core. He started killing our neighbors and I couldn't do anything. Then he killed Navreet, my angel. She was one of the kids from my neighborhood who I saw as my own children. I couldn't take it anymore. I decided to reveal everything to police but I knew that I couldn't do it directly as he would do everything to stop me. So I started acting like I was finally on his side which he believed as he knew that I had lost many of my loved ones and couldn't afford more. He wanted to kill Ashnoor next and when he got to know that she lives with you he decided to kill you as well...

Why is Adam saying all this to Avneet and not saying the truth to police though he is innocent?
Now that their leader had died, what will the mafia people do?
