Evelyn.
"Hailey I don't know what I'm doing!" I shouted at the phone. Her face showed in the small square of my phone screen, the FaceTime video showing her slightly impatient face.
She brought her face closer to the screen on the other side, trying to get a better view of me. Her eyebrows scrunched, and all I could see in my phone was half of her face, her mouth open in confusion.
Hailey was trying to see me.
My hair, more particularly.
I had decided today would be a good day for me to let my hair down at work, for the first time ever. My usual tight ponytail or bun was my trademark hairstyle- something that I lived for.
But now- I wanted to try letting my hair down. Look nice, considering the fact that there probably wasn't any fieldwork today.
"Eve- your hair is beautiful. Just let it be."
I gritted my teeth slightly- Hailey was clearly reveling in this. She was always insistent that I let my hair down, despite the amount I argued. Now that she had successfully gotten me to do so, she couldn't stop pointing out how nice it looked.
"Fine," I grumbled, running my hands down my brown hair. I guess there was no reason to care anyways.
I observed myself in the mirror, my mind wandering.
I wonder if Luke would like it.
I reprimanded myself for even the thought.
I do not need approval. Much less the approval from a superior.
I do not.

I walked from my car towards the sleek, white building. My eyes trailed up to the grey and cloudy sky- looks like it's going to rain.
Smoothening my suit blouse, I entered the building. I made my way down to my office, standing at my desk and placing my bag down on the floor. I began to get out my things from my bag and place them on the desk.
Just then, I heard a knocking on my open door. I turned to see Luke already there, a black suit clothing him. He leaned against the doorframe, his eyes on mine.
The blue in them seemed brighter today if that was even possible.
When Luke noticed my hair down, his eyes widened. Ever so slightly- but they did. And I most definitely noticed it. They stayed on my hair for a moment, just analyzing every bit of it.
He took light steps toward me. His eyes scanned over me, my hair, "Wow."
I touched my hair with my hand, feeling slightly insecure at the attention. I don't like attention. With slight venom in my voice, I called out, "What?"
Luke shook his head, "It's just- I've never seen you with your hair down before."
I defended, "Yeah well I'm an FBI agent."
Once again, he stepped towards me, stopping right in front of my desk, "Fitzgerald, I'm just saying it looks nice. On you."
