Evelyn.

You want to spend time with the ones you love.

Especially when you don't know how much time you have left with them.

After we reached Washington DC, we checked into a hotel, somewhere in the middle of the whole place.

Not that I had much knowledge of this city anyways.

Ashton checked into a room next to ours, Luke and I sharing one, obviously.

Turns out traveling was exhausting for all of us. I didn't expect that.

Actually, I did.

I rested my head against Luke's chest, listening to him hum.

"Hold me close and hold me fast
The magic spell you cast
This is "La vie en rose""

My eyes felt dreary listening to him sing, his hand resting against my back and trailing over down to just above the hem of my pants.

Luke's hand slid up under my shirt, rubbing the skin as he continued.

"When you kiss me, heaven sighs
And though I close my eyes
I see "La vie en rose"".

"That's beautiful," I sighed into his shirt, closing my eyes even further as he smiled. He pressed a kiss to my head and wordlessly rubbed my back.

Just then, I heard a knocking on the door.

"I'm coming in!" I heard the sound of Ashton's voice.

I shot up from the bed as he slid a key card and slammed the door open, walking in proudly.

"How did you get a key?!" I screamed, pulling the sheet up to cover us even though 8 was wearing a shirt and mostly dressed.

"Easy, the room is in Luke's name," Ashton flopped onto the bed next to us, "I pretended to be him and gave the woman downstairs information about him, easy peasy."

My eyes shot over to Luke, who laughed and shrugged. I slapped his chest before sitting up and pulling off the covers, standing and stretching.

"Okay," I clapped my hands, "Let's get planning."

Grabbing a map from my bag, I placed it up on the desk, pushing aside a random assortment of things on the floor and and flattening it out.

"There's an unidentified body in this casino's hotel. There's no marking of PM but it is the same MO."

Luke stood up and leaned over behind me, nodding as he rested his chin in the crook of my shoulder.

"There are entrances here and here," I pointed, before shifting my finger down the map, "And exits here and here."

"And that emergency exit," Luke pointed out as I nodded.

"When do you guys want to go?"

Ashton grinned at my words, "Tonight."

——

God I hate letting Ashton make decisions for us.

I insisted on dressing casual, but apparently that's not suitable for a casino. Ashton insisted that we had to truly play the part.

How would I know.

I shifted uncomfortably in a dress, the sequins rubbing up and down against my body.

It wasn't even mine.

"Look Irwin, I don't know where you got this dress or how-"

"You don't wanna know," He chimed in, munching on a chip. I shivered in disgust before turning back to the mirror and observing myself.
