Author's Note// short but sweet chapter today :)
Trigger Warning:
Includes case descriptions of homicide and brief reference of a vomiting episodeSpencer's POV:
Derek and Hotch were called up the next morning to a new location, where another body was discovered. They returned back to the group and Hotch and Derek gave the team the details.
"Another victim was found, her name was Julie Harmon. She seems to be more of an upper-class call girl. The lacerations show much more aggression and violence than before, and the period between each kill is getting shorter. We need to deliver the profile."
They all nodded and Y/n gathered the department in the main room so the team could deliver the profile.
Even after early this morning, Y/n had gone back to ignoring Spencer; except for when the topic of discussion centered around the case. They hadn't spoken about what they had talked about, and it seemed that she wasn't interested in bringing it up either.
They both had happened to be in the little kitchen area around the same time to grab coffee a couple of hours into the day. But when Spencer had even just said 'hi' to her, she walked away from him; so he just let her be.
They each took turns sharing parts of the profile to the police officers, "We're looking for a pair of white males in their late 20's to early '30s, who developed a pattern of overkill followed by remorse. This usually points to a dominant-submissive partnership."
Spencer continued, "The submissive follows the rules, knows the dominant's type, obtains the victims, and disposes of the body once the dominant has completed his killing ritual."
A member of the audience chimed in with a question, "What is the ritual?"
Emily answered, "it most likely involved some form of bondage. All of the victims have identical bruises on their thighs, but we're not sure if that's done during capture or kill."
"There's no sexual assault, which tells us the dominant is likely impotent or is experimenting with other forms of sexual release."
"We often refer to this as a 'thrill kill'. The dominant is inducing pain and creating terror without a sexual element. This provides him stimulation and excitement."
The same previous member cut in again, "Like an adrenaline rush."
"Exactly. The thrill of the murder is only a temporary fix. Like any narcotic, the violence satisfies his senses for a time, but then it fades. This is likely why his cooling-off period is nonexistent."
Y/n concluded the delivery, "Despite a public investigation, the unsubs have continued killing. The risk of getting caught does not trump their need to kill."
The officers dispersed and Derek's phone began to ring in his back pocket, receiving a call from Garcia. He pulled it out and put her on speaker.
"Hey baby girl, you're on speaker."
"Okay, sugar lump. I got all the information on the latest victim, and it turns out you were half right. Julie Harmon was a sexual surrogate. They help people get their get-it-on on. It's like having a hall pass with your therapist."
"Does she have a list of patients?"
"Oh, I'm sure she does, but I can't find anything electronically. She probably had a little black book. You know, Luddite-like."
"All right. Thank you, mama." Derek hung up the phone and turned to the rest of the team.
JJ nodded her head, "So it's like they were trying to fix something. Why else would you call a therapist?"
