The rest of the stay at the burrow was sort of uneventful. Celeste continued to drag Ron away any time I walked into the same room as them, and Ron still seemed to have no memory whatsoever of that night.
Everyone else was aware what I practically accused Ron of, but I don't know what they truly believed. I'm sure I looked crazy.
The thing is, I know Ron. I know when he's lying. And he was telling the truth when he claimed he doesn't remember.
It was painful for me to see him with Celeste.
She was constantly all over him, refusing to let a moment go by where she wasn't showing off the fact the it was her that was dating him and not me.
Fred had offered to continue and flirt with me to make Ron jealous, since it had so obviously worked before, but I turned him down. I figured I better move on sooner rather than later.
But it was easier said than done. Ron wasn't just the guy I liked — he was my best friend.
It was two heartbreaks in one.
Everyone was beginning to notice how we slowly became distanced. Thankfully, I could still hang out with the rest of them for the remainder of winter break, but it wasn't the same.
It wasn't Ron.
Eventually, break ended, and we all headed back to Hogwarts for the final part of the school year.
Molly sent me off with a warm hug and asked what was going on between Ron and I, but I shrugged and told her we were fine. I didn't want to bother her with our problems.
We all sat together at lunch on the first day back, but it was uncomfortable. Ron and Celeste were practically on top of each other down at one end of the table while the rest of us picked at our food idly.
"Oh Ron, you are just too funny!" Celeste exclaimed, tapping him on the nose.
Hermione and I exchanged nauseous glances.
"Hey, save the snogging for later," Fred remarked coldly. "Some of us are trying to eat here."
The rest of us grinned as Ron's face turned red. He slowly nudged Celeste away, who was very upset that he did so.
"What, you're gonna let him tell you what to do?" she hissed, folding her arms in front of her chest.
"Come on, Celeste. We're at lunch. Let's just cool it, alright?"
Celeste's face turned red with anger as she exhaled shortly, her nostrils flaring. "Whatever," she shot, standing up from her seat. "I'm going to the bathroom to freshen up."
The rest of us sighed in relief as she stormed out of the Great Hall, and Ron looked at us suspiciously. "What's the matter with you guys?" he asked.
"What's the matter?" George laughed. "Your girlfriend is awful, that's what's the matter."
"Sometimes she's a little... high maintenance, sure," Ron retorted. "But she's not awful."
"Wake up, dude!" Harry shouted. "She's taking over your life! She barely lets you hang out with us anymore!"
"So she likes hanging out with me, is that so wrong?" Ron cried, turning to me. "Come on, y/n, back me up here!"
I pursed my lips and tried to think of something to say that wouldn't be controversial, but I couldn't. Ron knows how Celeste and I feel about one another.
"I... have to go to the bathroom," I muttered, standing up and racing out of the Great Hall.
I was planning on just walking around the school for a minute instead of actually going to the bathroom. I knew Celeste was in there, and every time we've been alone together, things haven't really worked out.
