"Could you be any slower?" came a loud voice from outside of my room, the person banging on the door impatiently.
"Merlin, just a minute!" I called back, trudging over to the door to twist the handle. As I cracked it open and peaked through the space, Ron smiled back at me, pressing his face into the wood to try and push his way into my room.
"Let me in," he demanded as I pressed back on the door in the opposing direction, knowing when he entered all he'll do is insult me.
He eventually won, opening the door fully and sending me back a couple of steps at the force he swung in at.
He studied me up and down as I stood in front of him, my hair a raggedy mess in my T-shirt and pajama pants, clearly not ready for our first class.
"Y/n, I swear to Merlin, you could break the World record for longest time taken to get ready in the morning," he teased, his eyes landing on my pajama pants once more.
"Shut up," I groaned, shoving him out of the way as I stuck my toothbrush in my mouth in a hurried fashion.
"Seriously, what do you do all that time?" he asked, taking a seat on the edge of my bed as I faced away from him and brushed my teeth in the mirror.
"I don't know," I huffed with a mouthful of toothpaste, and I saw him grimace behind me in the mirror.
He checked his watch, tapping it aggressively to annoy me further. "It's 8:30 and you're still not dressed. This is like a new personal record," he joked, putting his tongue in his cheek and grinning.
"Well you barging in every morning and reminding me of how slow I am can't be speeding me up, can it?" I asked, turning to him as I yanked the toothbrush out of my mouth.
He continued to grin at me as I began to run a brush through my hair. "Aw, I liked your hair like that. All messy and knotty," he shot sarcastically.
I was done arguing, so I ignored his insults. I walked behind where he sat and grabbed my uniform from the chair in the corner of my room, quickly changing out of my pajamas and into my robes. I yanked my tie off the floor and slung it around my neck lazily, strolling over to where Ron sat and facing him. "Can you tie this?" I asked quietly, not particularly thrilled about needing his help.
"We've been going to this school for what, five years, and you still can't tie a tie?" he laughed, getting way too much enjoyment out of my struggling. He tauntingly reached his hands up to my neck and began to tie my tie.
Our faces were uncomfortably close together, so I looked up at the ceiling while Ron stuck his tongue out as he concentrated on tying my tie. His even breaths were hot on my neck, but I did my best not to notice.
"No, I can't tie a tie, Ronald," I snapped, pulling myself away from him as soon as he tightened the last part. "Now let's go."
I grabbed my books and flung the door open, leaving little time for Ron to catch up while it closed. "Hey!" he shouted, jogging up next to me as I stormed aggressively through the hallway. "If it weren't for me, you'd be late every day. I think you owe me a 'thank you' or something," he stated, raising his eyebrows expectantly.
"You only slow me down," I shot back, rounding the corner and joining the rest of the bustling students who were on their way to their first class.
"Hey guys," Hermione greeted us, smiling while Harry stood next to her.
"Just on time today," Harry remarked, flipping his wrist to check his watch. "We can't blame you, y/n. We know you aren't known for being early to things."
