"What we have once enjoyed we can never lose; all that we deeply love becomes a part of us."
-Helen Keller."Cascade Moreau," The man who was clearly in his elder years announced, grasping the undivided attention of the team members.
"Yes, that's us," Aaron replied with a certain desperation.
"I'm so sorry for your loss," He said, his voice displayed hints of sadness and guilt, either he was an extraordinary actor, or he had truly felt the loss of Cascade. "Aaron Hotchner, I found this letter addressed to you in her pocket, it is yours after all," The morgue worker handed Aaron a letter, addressed to him with Cascade's distinct handwriting.
Aaron slowly sat, examining the letter, battling whether to open it or not. His heart told him, yes, and his mind told him no. Usually, Aaron would have followed his mind with undoubted certainty, and now, he hadn't the slightest idea.
His hands that are so used to relishing the warmth were now surrounded by the cold, freezing his hands in place, forcing him to read the letter placed in his hands.
The rough fabric of the paper was not welcoming, scrapping his calloused hands daringly. His fingers traced her unique handwriting, memorising each letter as they passed, the teardrops threatening to fall impatiently, urging him to read. Yet, he was unable to read any further than the first line.
Dear Aaron,
Those two words seemed so intimidating at that moment and never had he felt imposition and vulnerability so immense before. The sentiment of anguish coursed through his veins as he attempted to control the waterfall threatening to leak, the team surrounded him as he stared at the letter before him, no emotion in his eyes, his face devoid of any human emotion, and it frightened the team.
He forced himself to carry on, to fight through the pain and read her last words so dearly. The love and sentiment warmed his heart, while also breaking it, and his stomach dropped in unison with his tears.
