By the time Alysa made her way over to them Jared had Earl up farther on the beach.
She watched worriedly as he listened for a heartbeat and began to resuscitate him.
The day you come out as gay, I'll burn the last witch alive.
Rodney's words echoed in Alysa's mind as Jared desperately tried to bring his adoptive father back to life.
Any concern she had for her own life drifted away as she saw Jared's shared breaths and pumps becoming weaker and weaker.
He looked up with tear eyes at Alysa when the elderly man's heart would not restart.
"Jared ... I -" Alysa began, shedding a tear in sympathy.
Jared shook his head and turned his face toward the forest.
"He gave his life for ours, he wouldn't want us to cry now." He said with a sad smile.
Jared walked over to Al, offering her a hand which she accepted.
Together they gathered stones for a Cairn burial.
After digging a shallow grave and covering Earl's body with the stones they sat along the shore as the sun began to rise.
"What do we do now?" Alysa whispered fearful of the future now that her own fate seemed to be sealed.
"I - I don't know." Jared answered honestly, gazing across the lake's shimmering surface.

"Hey Dad, do you know why Jared isn't answering?" Rodney asked, slumped over an armchair.
"The boy's probably just busy working, as you should be." His father replied, raising an eyebrow at Rodney's lack of ethic.
"Something feels off, I'm gonna go check in on him." Rodney said, hopping up and grabbing his coat off the door.
"Actually son -" His father started, reminded of the most probable location of the rogue witch and his 'employees'. "Why don't you help me plan this next town meeting? It's going to be rather important with the introduction of our new neighbors, wouldn't you say so?" He smiled, ignorant of the fact that his son already knew the current state of their 'neighbors'.
"Ye-yeah I suppose. I'm sure he's busy - with something." Rodney said, looking out the window at the rising sun as he furrowed his brow before turning to help his father at his desk.

"You're sure you can lead us back? With magic?" Jared asked in disbelief.
