Two Months Later

April 29th 2017

It was hard to believe that these eight weeks had flow by as quick as they did. Although Elena was full term and ready to pop at any second, the doctors were expecting another week before the babies made their debut as expected in May.

The house was officially ready for them. I had been busting my ass making sure the nursery was equipped with everything they needed. While I had the time, I went ahead and went on baby proofing spree . It was my guess that there wouldn't be much time to get it done when they were born.

With each day, Elena was becoming more moody and irritable. She frequently complained about sore, swollen feet and backaches. I'd do my best to give her massages and keep her off her feet as much as possible.

Her doctors told her to go on bed rest, but there was no way possible to keep her laid up all day. She insisted on walking the babies out
and attending her sisters birthday party tonight.

I tried to convince her to stay home, but she wasn't hearing it. If I learned anything from being with Lena, it was that she was stubborn as hell. Just like her sister.

Already dressed and ready to head out, I sat in the living room waiting for her to come down from the bedroom.

I took in the quiet, stillness of the house. Everything was neat and perfectly in its place due to our equally shared OCD. That would all change in days. We were in the final stretch of our lives being just us.

There were days I was happy and excited, then also moments where I was scared as fuck about becoming a dad. A first time dad being a father to two right out the gate. There was a little more ease in my heart knowing that my fiancé would be sharing the same experience right beside me.

Lord, I just pray for two happy, healthy babies and a healthy mama who's been a soldier through her journey in motherhood.

The infamous sound of heels clinking against the wood flooring drew my attention to the stairs. Holding on to the railing, Elena made her way down black poncho, leather pants and her signature high heels.

"Elena, really?"

"What?" both of her freshly arched eyebrows perked up.

"Those," I pointed towards her feet, "you're about to have the babies at any second, supposed to be on bed rest and you complain about you're feet hurting all the time- but you're wearing these."

"Oh babe you bought me these remember?" she held out her left foot to show off the shoe

"I do. How could I forget? Them shits cost me a stack."

"They're a gorgeous shoe and they totally bring this outfit together," she walked over to the mirror in the foyer to adjust the loose strands of her hair.

"But don't you think you need to wear something a little more functional like flats or sneakers?"

"Oh no darling," she said, "I can walk just fine in these and I feel great. My feet may get a little achy throughout the night but pain is beauty. I'm pregnant not disabled. Plus, if this water breaks tonight atleast I'm fully dressed and ready to meet my babies. Francesca will learn early on to keep her heels and standards high and Finn will understand  that the shoe will tell you everything you need to know about a woman. You know what they say honey, the higher the heel the closer to God."

The closer to God? Dear Lord what at am I gonna do with her?

"Whatever you say, baby. I just know my ass is stuck with rubbin them dawgs everyday and I'd appreciate it if you helped me out."
