Emilia
Witnessing my sister giving birth to twins had to have been one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen. I don't know how she did it without an epidural, but she powered through it like a soldier and was now resting.
I left the hospital briefly to take a nap, shower and change clothes before I returned with Max. Aubrey stayed home to give Oliver a break from babysitting Madison.
Max and I took turns holding each baby. Finn came out to be 7 pounds and 7 ounces while Francesca was 8 pounds and 9 ounces. Both 19 inches long. Given Elena's history with pregnancy, we were so happy that they were healthy babies that were able to be delivered vaginally and naturally- just as the way she wanted them to be.
The more I admired the twins, I had noticed that baby Frankie was looking just like Elena with her lips, nose and cheeks. Finn was looking more and more like Gelo taking on the same features. Both of them currently had their fathers deep brown eyes.
As I've witnessed with my own daughter, babies change so much as they get older. I've noticed changes almost weekly with her, whether it be physical features or mannerisms. It's going to be so exciting to see the differences and similarities my niece and nephew will have as fraternal twins.
Gelo stretched out on his pull out bed with Finn lying on his bare chest, fully basking in their skin to skin contact while I helped Frankie get latched on to Elena for her feeding. When she finished, it was Finn's turn.
Once both babies were full and burped, Max helped Gelo lay them back in their bassinets to get some rest. We all chatted briefly before Gelo dozed off mid sentence. Although Elena was tired as all hell, she couldn't stop staring and smiling at her little ones.
Max stepped out to take a phone call from Reagan, so that left us with a little sister time with Gelo's snoring in the background.
"Is it crazy that I still can't believe that they came from me?" she said, gazing on at them, "those two beautiful babies...I'm their mom."
"You're a mommy now. It's what you've always wanted and it finally happened," I sat in the seat at her bedside.
"I'm so happy that we get to raise our kids together. Be moms together. I know that I have Gelo but having you going on this journey with me- with experience- comforts my soul more than you'll ever know. I love you."
"I love you more, sissy," I gently hugged her as my phone began to ring.
Aubrey
would like to FaceTimeWhen the call connected, the smiling face of my ten month old appeared on the screen. She was in our bed, dressed in pajamas, curled up next to her shirtless daddy
"Can you say hi mama?" Aubrey encouraged her.
"Mama, mama," she reached out towards the phone, almost knocking it out of his hand.
"Aww, mommy will be home soon. I'm checking on your Auntie Elena and your new cousins. I can't wait for you to meet them."
Diamond jumped on the bed to make a cameo by licking Aubrey's face. Madison's eyes lit up as she started playing with her. I loved that Diamond was so good with babies. Having her around Madison from the beginning really help build their bond.
"Well, I'm gonna try to get these two to wind down. See you when you get home. Don't make daddy wait up too late," he winked.
"Dada, dada, dog!" Madison pointed at Diamond, "dog dada!"
"Yes baby that's a dog. Can you tell mommy what sound a dog makes?" Aubrey prompted.
"Woof!"
He clapped and smiled, which made her do the same, "Good job baby girl."
