Alianna's plan was to sit by herself and observe on her first case. Obviously Morgan and Prentiss had a different plan. They both sat next to her on the jet. She smiled kindly at both of them before going over the crime scene photos again. Something about the second murder made her question it.
"Any thoughts, Snyder?" Prentiss asked her. Morgan also was looking at her, to hear her insight. She wasn't used to being asked for her thoughts.
"I noticed that all of the couples were unmarried..." Alianna glanced at them, "And I also noticed the necklace around Donna Young's neck. It's half burned but I think that the symbol was a pentagram. It's seen as a symbol of protection in some pagan religions... I think the unsub might be Christian and views these couples as sinners."
"You got all that from a necklace?" Morgan asked her.
"I have a degree in Theology and spend my spare time studying how religion affects crime and criminals," Alianna told him.
"Why didn't you request to transfer sooner?" Prentiss asked her.
"I never thought it would be in the cards for me," Alianna answered honestly.
"You must seriously underestimate yourself, Snyder," Morgan commented. She chuckled softly at his comment, it was one she got often. She noticed Hotch approach the group and sit next to them.
"Have you gone over the case files?" Hotch directed his question to Alianna. She expected questions like that and the hovering, it was her first day after all. The new girl had to be watched, she knew that would be how it would work no matter where she transferred.
"Yes, sir," Alianna nodded in response. Prentiss and Morgan shared a look with each other. The newest agent was obviously a very formal person and neither of them knew her well enough to know whether or not she would warm up to the team. Reid and Rossi moved closer so that the team could discuss the case as a whole. Alianna stayed quiet and observed. Reid and Rossi both glanced at her, as if they didn't know whether or not to include her in the discussion. She just sent them both reassuring smiles and she stayed quiet.
"Snyder has a theory," Morgan said when the rest of the team hit a roadblock in their theories.
"Oh, um, yes," Alianna glanced at Morgan, then the rest of the team, "I believe the unsub might have a religious motive."
"Why?" Hotch asked her.
"Donna Young was wearing a pentagram charm on her necklace, and Marcus Roberst was in a relationship with David Arthur. Both acts are seen as something against the bible. Based on the fact that the necklace was most likely burned by the unsub, there is evidence that the motive is religious. Or he is using his religion to explain his urges to kill."
"What about Kyle Brown and Maia Drake?" Rossi asked Alianna.
"Premarital intercourse," Alianna answered, "Or at least, suspected premarital intercourse."
"It's not impossible," Prentiss spoke up.
"I want you to explore that theory more, Snyder," Hotch told her, "When we land, I want Morgan and Prentiss at the most recent crime scene, Snyder and Rossi go to the M.E.'s office, Reid, JJ, and I will set up at the police department."
