Jaylyn waved farewell to Adam as he dropped her off at the newest crime scene that morning. Jo was talking to Hanson as they looked at the wreckage of a silver Mercedes C-class, Henry however left his spot beside the dead driver and walked over to her with a frown on his face.
“May I ask what took you so long?” He asked as he watched the car turn a corner. “Or are you too busy with old friends?”
“I went to the police department and Lieutenant Reece told me to come here, Adam was merely dropping me off before I was actually considered late.” Jaylyn walked passed him and over to the other two detectives. “So we have a car crash?”
“Seems like it.” Hanson replied and gave Jo a friendly smirk. “Looks like your street has a thing for people getting ran over in it.”
“They weren’t run over, they collided with another car.” Jo corrected.
Jaylyn took in the black paint marks that had been scraped into the side before going to the front of the car where the car was mostly damage. “The driver collided with them head on… it would have caused terrible damage to both cars to the point where no one could try repairing the cars. The driver of the black car left, but came back… along the road you can see tire marks where they turned around too quickly, and hit this car again.”
Jo nodded as she took in the information. “And it killed the driver.”
“No.” Henry disagreed as he joined them. “The driver of this car was badly hurt yes, but what killed him was a slit throat.”
“Murdered.” Jaylyn sighed and glanced around in confusion. “Jo, if you live on this street why didn’t you hear this? It isn’t anywhere close to being busy enough to cover up this crash.”
“I wasn’t home.” Jo replied simply.
“Where’s the black car?”
Hanson shrugged. “I’m not sure, the person probably dumped it after they took care of that poor young man.”
“A car that damaged won’t be able to drive far after a collision like this.” Jaylyn disagreed and began to make her way up the street. “Detective Martinez are there any alleys nearby large enough for a car to drive through?”
“Uh, I think there’s one over the hill about a third of the way down to the corner.” She replied.
Jaylyn nodded and walked off quickly with Hanson, Jo, and Henry close behind. She turned into the alley and grinned as she found the destroyed car covered in dents and silver paint, the license plate had been removed but the contents in the car all seemed to be there as she opened the door through the broken window.
“Find anything?” Jo asked as after a few minutes of examining the outside of the car.
Jaylyn came back out and stared at Hanson. “Yes, but you’re not going to like it.”
“Detective Hanson, is that your driver’s license?” Henry asked as he took the plastic card from Jaylyn.
“Yes… but this can’t be my car. I left it at work yesterday when I accepted a ride from a friend.” Hanson’s features looked shocked as he stared at the card.
“There wasn’t a black car there when I went to work Hanson.” Jaylyn told him. “So, should I ask why you killed that man?”
