"Lottie dear?" I turn to where the queen is standing in the doorway. Jamie's arm drops from around my shoulder and he bows.
"Your majesty?" I smile and she takes a step towards me.
"I need to ask you something important." She motions for Jamie to go and he casts a long look at me before leaving.
The afternoon light dances across the wooden floor at my feet. The queen sits down gracefully on the edge of the sofa and I follow.
"First I need to ask you, do you love Jamie?"
My answer is almost instant and makes Queen Mathilde smile. "Yes. With my whole heart."
She tucks a strand of my hair behind my ear gently.
"I'm glad to hear. How would you feel," she pauses "about marrying him?"
I'm still in shock when she adds, "and becoming queen?"
