Part 6: stalker

We've been in the truck for probably over an hour now, driving whichever direction it is trying to get Murphy to California,

All we've seen for miles is a few signs and an occasional Z that 10k always shoots and adds up his stupid number, to be honest I don't know why I'm so upset with him,

Sometimes he's my enemy but sometimes I want to hug him,

It's strange, and I don't like it,

Warren slows down the truck to a space near trees by the road.

"We will rest here for the night, 10k start a fire?"

He nodded and went to gather wood,

I on the other hand didn't move, that was until I realized I should probably get my dog up to stretch his legs and he probably has to use the bathroom,

I hopped out of the truck,

"duke!" I whistled,

He hopped out after me and put his face between my hand and my leg, "let's go take a walk, yeah?"

He just had that dumb doggy smile I loved so much.

"Stay close." Warren told me.

"Sure." I responded,

I walked into the forest area, duke went to the bathroom but other than that he usually stayed by my side, very closely.

I heard talking so naturally I do what any smart person would do, I investigate,

As I get closer I see 10k and....

Cassandra?

I crouch down and quietly tell duke "sit." I shush him even though he's a dog,

"Are you and y/n, like, a thing?" Cassandra asks 10k,

well, she's bold. He looks at her confused, and yet nervous at the same time,

"No.." he answers quickly, "why do you ask?"

She makes eye contact with him and walks closer, I can tell he's nervous, he's very awkward when he get nervous but then again when Isn't he awkward?

"Oh no reason, really...although if I didn't know better I'd think you might have a small crush." She teased,

10k looked down and picked up a few sticks,

"Uhm..no, I don't know." "What am I supposed to say?"

"Well what do you think of her? Honestly." I watched them carefully, this is going to be interesting.,

He looked around for a minute, "well uh..I guess she's a pretty good friend, although we haven't been talking right now much."

She cut him off,

"do you think she's pretty?"

"Uhh..yeah? I guess."

Wow, just watching this conversation is painfully awkward. Maybe I should end his misery and pretend to walk up and say I heard nothing,

But just then she asked another question,

"do you think I'm pretty?" Man this is a horribly boring and awkward conversation,

She walks closer to him,

"yes?" He answers with an unsure tone,

She is really close to him and I can tell he's pretty uncomfortable but I also wanted to see what was going to happen,

She leans towards him and closes her eyes as if she's going to kiss him, to make it more obvious of what she wants, she grabs his face,

He seems confused but I know what's going to happen, but just before anything could happen duke barks...

They immediately pull apart, they look in our direction so I stay low and run back to the rest of the group,

Duke follows,

I sit down near the group and where they plan on building a fire, whenever 10k decides to stop fooling around,

Just now I'm really thinking about what just happened, he was really going to kiss her,

I think back to the time when he tagged me, when I joked about kissing him, did he really think i was serious, when he said he'd enjoy it or was he messing around, I mean sure I was messing around too but in my head I wouldn't actually mind kissing him..

Duke comes and kisses my cheek, more like slobbers me with licks and so called kisses,

And even though he blew our cover I love him.

He lays down next to me and puts his head in my lap, he must be hungry,

I don't have much but I pull out a can of tuna and open it for him, I let him have the whole thing,

While he's scarfing down his food 10k and Cassandra come walking back together,

She sits down and 10k gets a fire going. 

We are all sitting around the fire, nobody says anything until finally,

Addi speaks up, "how about we play a game?"

"Like what?" Doc asks her.

"Truth or dare." She responds.

"Alright, yeah" Mack says.

"Sounds stupid." Murphy adds in.

"Might as well do something." Warren says.

"Sure." Cassandra says.

"I'm in." 10k shrugs.

They look at me, I roll my eyes, "fine." I say.
