No answer

KATE'S POV

7:00am, at the loft
It was 7 am and I was at kitchen table, Lanie is still sleeping in guest room. I wonder what is he doing now? Is he thinking about me just like I think about him, non-stop? I don't even know where is he, he can be anywhere... Those toughts are killing me... Maybe it's time to stop thinking and start eating breakfast I heard sleepy voice behind me. Hey Lanie, good morning to you I greeted my friend. How long have you been up? she asked. Um I woke up around six, why? Six?!?! Are you crazy? I barely get up at seven, and you get up at six like it's completely normal. But I am not tired, Lanie I simply said. If you aren't tired than I am a gueen of England. she said jokingly. Okay maybe a little bit I admitted. Girl you haven't slept in days. I know, I know...
Let's make breakfast girl, I am starving Lanie said. "Make breakfast" I said, he usually makes breakfast I whispered wistfully. Look, Kate I know it's hard, but you need to stop doing this, everything I said you conect to him. He's probably sleeping peacefully now and you're just torturing yourself. Lanie, give me the phone! I said while remembering the message from yesterday. Oh yes the message! I turned on the phone as fast as I could. My face darkened as I read what was written on the home screen
"No new messages". I set my cell phone aside as tears began to well up in my eyes. So he didn't answer, did he? Lanie asked as she placed a hand on my shoulder. No I said weakly. Hey Kate it's okay, maybe he is still sleeping or he had some work to do. Maybe he went somewhere to clear his mind a little and take a break from it all. That's what you should do too. Maybe you're right Lanie. Of course I am, can I suggest something to you?
Ok I said. Get ready and let's go to work together, trust me it will help you. I don't know Lanie I said and took my last sip of coffee. C'mon! Please, trust me you will feel better. Ok if you insist, I said as I headed to the bathroom.

LANIE'S POV

We drove to the station in silence, it's not the Kate I know, now she's closed in on herself and she's not so combative, happy anymore, I don't remember the last time she laughed.
Kate I said as looked at her. She just raised her head slightly. Hey, everything will be okay, trust me. I just want my normal life back, I just want my husband back, Lanie. I know and he will be back, like he always does. I stopped the car as we reached the precinct. "We're here" Are you ready? She just nodded as she got out of the car.

At the precinct

The elevator door opened, Kate and Lanie saw the familiar faces of their colleagues. Hey girls Ryan and Espo said happily, hey Kate you're finally back, is good to see you they both said. Yes you too guys, it's good to be back. Um where is Captain Gates? I need talk to her the brown-haired detective said. She is her office Ryan adds. Okay thanks boys, see you later. Kate said as she walked to the captain's office. After she left the guys immediately turned to Lanie, is she okay ?, the two detectives asked.
Not exactly the best, the medical examiner replied. Yes we can see they both said.

GATES'S POV

I heard a knock on the door, I raised my head to see who needed me. I saw a face I didn't expect at all. "Detective Beckett" I said shocked. I tought you took "sick days". Yes I did but I think i need to get back to work, to occupy my thoughts a bit with something.
Of course, detective I am happy to have you back. What is the situation between you and Castle if I may ask?
At that moment I saw her turn her head to hide her tears, I had never seen her so broken, I was really worried about her. My deepest apologies I said. Today is your first day back, so today you can sort out the paperwork, not to do something too hard, I added. Thank you Sir, she said. I hope everything will be ok, detective. Me too, Sir, me too.

Kate sat down at her desk and started doing the paper work. But she wasn't as focused as usual, her gaze constantly fleeing to the chair, his chair, which was now completely empty. Suddenly she remembered all the beautiful moments in this station, between her and Rick. She smiled remembering when they had just started dating and then they had to hide it from everyone else, and only when they looked at each other did they want to kiss. It was so tense and challenging, a bit funny. And when Rick proposed to her, it was our time, she thought wistfully. It was one of the happiest moments of her life

Flashback to their proposal

As soon as she finished her shift, she came home, but Rick wasn't home, she just found a piece of paper on the table.
"Good evening, my love, put on this beautiful black dress I bought for you and come out in front of the building."
She took a quick shower, tidied up, and headed for the exit. When she came in front of the building, her mouth opened in shock, a white limousine waiting for her, her, a white limousine. The mysterious driver opened the door for her she entered still in shock, she didn't even know where they were going. When they arrived, she realized it was park, their park, their swings. When she came closer to the swings she saw Rick in a dark blue suit, waiting for her. They sat down, and started having what seemed like idle conversation, it was a perfectly normal night date at park until Rick got up, came to her, knelt down and asked " Will marry me, Katherine Houghton Beckett?" Yes, that's all she could say. It was one of the happiest moments of her life.

End of flashback

She heard someone call her name, which brought her back to reality, a sad and gloomy reality. Kate, Kate! Are you okay? Lanie asked worriedly. Yes, yes, my thoughts wandered I replied. I can see, anyway are you ready? Ready for what? Our shift is over, we are going home. Oh yes, I remembered.

KATE'S POV

As we drove home I panicked, I remembered the message. Hey calm down, he must have answered, Lanie was calming me down. But what if he didn't answer, then what? Hey slowly we're not even home yet, don't rush, Lanie said as she slowed down the car because we were close to the building. After Lanie parked the car, we headed for the apartment, as we got closer, my heart was beating faster. I unlocked the door and ran to my cell phone without taking off my jacket. After I turned it on, I saw that awful inscription "No new messages" again, when I saw the inscription, as if I had received a bullet straight into my heart. Lanie, I turned to my friend, and showed her the reason for my disappointment. Kate, it's not over, maybe he just has a job or doesn't have a phone with him.
And what if he saw the message and didn't answer, or worse ... if something happened to him, I cut her off. He is a grown man who certainly knows how to take care of himself.
You go to sleep now, because you can't drag yourself around the house like this anymore, she ordered me. I listened to her because I didn't have the strength to resist, I put on my pajamas and crawled into bed, I let sleep overwhelm me because I was so tired, tired of everything ... I just hope tomorrow will be a better day.
