Denki Kaminari wasn't the quarterback on the football team; He was just a lineman. He wasn't the A student, to be honest, he was barely even a B student. Denki Kaminari wasn't the hottest guy every girl was after, but he could pick up chicks he met at any social gathering. Denki wasn't a "popular kid," but his name and face were known by many. He was the class clown as they say, loud and goofy, leaving impressions on everyone he met. He always tried his best to be the best, but sometimes he just fell short. "I'm incompetent." he often thought to himself, and he wouldn't think of himself any other way. He overthinked things a lot, way too much for his own good. He was too trusting and a bit too sensitive. Although, if you ask me, being trusting and sensitive isn't always a bad thing. But what do I know? Denki often drowned in his own thoughts, struggling to keep his head above water. Too bad he didn't know how to swim. As a giant lineman, he felt more like a sinker than a bobber.
But his buddies were always there for him. His buddies were great. They were often referred to as "The Bakusquad" and were always together. They were all in the same class in the Hero Course at UA. After school, they'd always go to their local burger joint. They'd get the biggest, juiciest burgers rich in calories to replenish what they'd lost during training throughout the day. They'd talk about dumb nothings, calling each other names and making fun of one another. They talked about their aspirations as heroes and boasted about their abilities, boosting their egos in hopes that their dreams to be pro heroes would come true.
It was the middle of winter now. The trees were barren and everything was dead. All around him the world was grey, dull, and cold, but he liked the cold. Its bitter bite made him feel something. He sat in his assigned seat in his first class and let the day pass him by. Every day was like this; he was just going through the motions. Of course, talking with his friends and hanging out with The Bakusquad would bring some color to his life, but it was a short, fleeting feeling. The Bakusquad knew this. On the outside he seemed lively and extroverted, but at home by himself, he'd have moments lower than the lowest of lows. He was like this ever since that girl. Her name was never spoken again -even I don't know it- but she was never forgotten.
Denki was once in love with her. In his eyes, she was his closest friend and the one he could lean on. He would share his secrets and feelings with her. He was vulnerable and she was there for him to talk to. He trusted her with everything he was and she was "faithful to him and only him," she promised. Or so it seemed. I don't know what Denki saw in her that made him want to be with her. All I know is the suffering she put him through. She often got upset about the littlest things. She'd slap him across the face if he was late to things and always threatened to leave him if he did anything she didn't like. She would fish for compliments and Denki would happily supply them only to receive criticism and judgment in return. And in the end, this girl cheated on him too, not once, but twice. It's a wonder why she cheated that many times before breaking up with him.
Denki endured a lot while he was with her, but this was the cruelest story I had heard. One day Denki was hanging around her as she talked to her friend before school started. All of a sudden, she said to her friend "Hey watch this." and turned around to kick Denki as hard as she could between the legs. The intense pain erupted throughout his body pulsating from that region as he crumpled to the ground. He curled up in a ball, immobilized from the pain, and you know what that girl did? She laughed. She stood over his curled up body and laughed hysterically. Her laugh echoed through Denki's ears as tears pricked the corners of his eyes.
"Oh come on," She eventually said. "Get up. It can't be that bad. Man up."
But he couldn't. He stayed curled up in that spot for the rest of the day. Teachers began getting concerned after he couldn't get up for hours. They had started to believe she actually might've broken his pelvis. At the end of the school day, his friends rushed to his side. They were furious. Hell, I would've been pissed too. The Bakusquad were practically boiling over with seething resentment. They were discussing going after the girl and beating her to a pulp, but Denki wouldn't let that happen. Despite what she had done to him, he couldn't let her get hurt. She was still his girlfriend and had to look out for her. In order to prevent his friends from going after her, he very slowly forced himself up, saying it wasn't a big deal and that they should just let it go. Even after immobilizing him for a whole day and laughing at his suffering, Denki couldn't find it in himself to leave her. It was a sick and twisted relationship he was imprisoned in.
