It had been a tough few weeks. Your parents hated everything you were and always told you to be better. They wanted you to become a strong, popular, successful hero. But you weren't. Their harsh words towards you that they thought were encouraging, actually hurt you. They pressured you and their words made you feel like you didn't compare to anything.
The past weeks have been noticeably worse since they were disappointed that you hadn't won the sports festival. You couldn't get away from them and their criticism unless you were in the bathroom or sleeping. You couldn't take it anymore.
So one night, after you were sure they were asleep, you snuck out your window. You walked down the streets which were only lit up by the occasional street lamp. You made your way to the park you always went to as a kid. It was your favorite park. You always had fun playing here. That was back when your parents didn't put all the hero pressure on you.
You walked up to the big lake that was at the park. But as you approached it, you realized there was someone sitting there. The person's red and white hair that split right down the middle made their identity unmistakable.
"Todoroki?" You questioned.
He turned around and got up.
"(L/n)? What are you doing here?" He asked.
"I was going to ask you the same thing," You said.
"Well, I asked first," He replied.
You sighed and smiled at his craftiness. You walked over next to him and sat down.
"I came here to get away from my parents," You answered.
He sat down next to you.
"They never leave me alone," You continued, "They're always criticizing me and telling me how awful I am and that I need to be better. They keep on nagging me about how I need to become an amazing hero and all that. They keep putting pressure on me and forcing me to do these things that I don't want to do. They're always saying how I need to be better than what I am now. I don't know... I'm probably not making any sense right now."
"No," Todoroki stated.
You looked over at him. He leaned back on his hands and looked up at the stars.
"I completely understand."
You waited for him to say more.
"My father's the same way." He looked at his left hand. "He always pushed me to become a better hero than him. He trained me everyday up to the point where I would almost break. My mom was the only escape I had from him. Until one day, she was taken away and there was no escape from my father. He kept me to train with him. I never got to play with my siblings. Because of him, a long time ago, I decided I would never use my left side in battle. I decided that I would surpass him by using only my mother's quirk and completely reject him."
"Todoroki-"
"Shouto. Call me Shouto," He stated.
"Shouto," You said trying out his first name, "I had no idea you were going through all that."
"Neither did I with you. But... we came here to forget. So," He stood up and held out his hand for you, "Tonight, let's forget all that and enjoy ourselves."
A warm smile found its way onto your lips. You placed your hand in his, and he pulled you up. Shouto walked over to the water's edge and placed his foot over the water. Before you knew it, his ice had spread across the whole lake, freezing it. He turned to you.
"Do you know how to ice skate?" He asked.
You shook your head.
"I'll teach you."
He walked out onto the ice, and you followed him. He turned around to face you. You looked up at him wondering what he was going to do. Suddenly, you felt a coldness on your feet. You looked down to see that Shouto had encased your shoes in ice skates made of ice.
