"Wait, you guys can't come?" I questioned my parents, suddenly feeling anxious.

"Only members of the nobility can enter from what I hear," my father responded, smiling at me gently. "But it'll be alright, only one of us could have come in the first place anyways. You wouldn't want to pick, would you?"

I rolled my eyes at that statement as I stood from my desk to face my parents, who were standing in the doorway. "I can help you get ready, though," my mom said, grinning at me. "You're going to be the prettiest of the bunch." I snorted, remembering how pretty I thought the other girls looked. Still, I appreciated the sentiment. My mom paused before adding on, "Plus, Sophie Foster is going to be picking you up and you'll be arriving alongside her and her son."

"Eamon," I reminded her. "He's one of my best friends, guys. You'll probably hear about him more."

My dad sighed. "I'm sure we'll be hearing lots of about him." He locked eyes with my mom for a moment before turning back to me. "How do you feel about tonight?"

I shrugged my shoulders in response, but when no one said anything I realized they wanted a verbal answer. "I don't know. I'm excited to be one of the youngest members of the nobility. I'm excited the council trusts me, and Lady Marella and I went over a bunch of stuff in my session today and she said she thinks that I show great control over my abilities and that I'm powerful and gifted."

"Hopefully I can find the time to have a conversation with her," my father responded. "I'm sure there's lots she was able to learn that I wasn't given circumstances, but maybe there are things that I have learned that she could help teach you in the formal setting."

"Actually, there is one thing she was thinking about asking a more ancient pyrokinetic for an opinion," I responded immediately, perking up at the fact maybe he could have an answer.

"Ancient?" my dad laughed. "Does it look like my ears have pointed?"

I rolled my eyes and responded, "You know what I mean." He still laughed at his joke anyways and I took a moment before starting to explain the situation of my special abilities.

"Oh." My father frowned. "Well, her explanation does seem pretty on spot. Maybe your specialty is heat specifically. I do recall I believe my mother's abilities seemed to work the same way as yours. It's been a while since I've spoken to her, I could probably ask." He looked to be in thought for a moment before placing his hand on my mom's shoulder so she knew he was speaking to her specifically. "I'm going to be in the office and see if I can reach my mother to ask her about it. After that I'll go to the restaurant. Are you going to stay here until she gets back or meet me there?"

"I'll probably stay here to wait for her," she told him. "So we'll see you tonight, then?" He nodded in response to her before leaning down so they could share a quick kiss before he headed out. After he was gone she turned to me. "Alright, let's look through your closet to see if we have anything fancy enough."

After a while I finally finished getting ready and we by our leapmaster and waited for the Fosters to appear. "How is the mural going?" I asked my mother, trying to make conversation.

She smiled. "It's actually looking pretty good! Have you had a look at it so far?"

"No," I replied, shaking my head. "But Eamon's told me a little about it."
