It had been about a week and a half since you and Sokka got together, and every day was better than the last. It was a pretty average week, but you still loved it. Everyone else knew about your relationship and were all supportive. You were really enjoying it. Until next Tuesday. That's when she came back.

"What?! I'm not a celebrity chef!"

Katara had been scolding you on your ability ( or inability) to crack eggs, and you heard the doorbell ring.

"Who's that?" katara muttered to you, but you just shrugged, as you didn't know either.

"Sokka! Get the door!" you shouted, wiping your hands on your apron.

"Got it!" he responded, getting up from his place on the couch.

by the time you made it out of the kitchen, he was almost to the door. you walked up behind him and hugged his left arm, as he opened the door with his right. Your smile immediately left your face when you made eye-contact with the guest.

Sokka went blank.

"Suki! What brings you here?" you said, stepping in front of Sokka.

be. nice.

be. nice.

don't. freak. out.

were the thoughts repeating in your head as she responded.

"oh, hi y/n! I hadn't seen the gaang in a while, and I thought id drop by on my vacation." she leaned over a little and waved to Sokka, which, for lack of a better word, made you want to helicopter kick her in the throat, right then and there.

"oh, please, come in, breakfast is cooking right now!"

ok. that was good.

you opened the door wider, and she slipped off her sandals and stepped into the living room. You stared Sokka dead in the eyes as he returned to the couch, uncomfortable with the obvious tension between you and his ex. When he noticed your look, he quickly shook his head and shrugged, careful to not let Suki see. That made you feel a bit better, just knowing he didn't want her here either. Suki sat down on the couch next to Sokka, a little too close for comfort. You didn't say anything. You went back into the kitchen but quickly decided to "set the table", so you could keep an eye on them, as the dining room was connected to the living room. Was that immature? Maybe. Did you care? No.

You started to declutter some of the things on the table, trying to make yourself look casual. They continued their conversation. you straightened the table runner and grabbed some plates and silverware.

"Whatcha doing y/n?" Suki asked, a smile on her face.

"Just setting the table for when breakfast is done," you said, returning the smile.

"Oh, we never ate breakfast at the table when I was here..." she said, a confused look on her face.

"Well, Some things have changed since you were here." You said, not getting rid of the happy look on your face. You heard Katara stifle a laugh. Aang stopped in his tracks, almost dropping the plate of pancakes in his hands. Toph was...somewhere, probably still sleeping. Zuko was standing in the back of the kitchen, with an amused look on his face. Sokka was looking at you with pleading eyes, and you felt pretty bad for him.

"Oh! why don't you come sit down! The food is ready," you said, gesturing for them to come to the table. You walked into the kitchen and Katara immediately pulled you aside.

"y/n, calm down. I'm not okay with this either, but we have to listen to her," she said quietly.

"Listen to her?"

"Well, she probably came to apologize."

"And then what?" you whisper yelled.

"I don't know! Sit down and eat your breakfast. in peace." she walked away and grabbed the pan full of bacon, bringing it to the table and putting it on people's plates. You stayed in the kitchen with your arms crossed, biting the inside of your check, thinking about the situation. Aang walked up to you and put his hand on your shoulder.

"look y/n, I know you really care about Sokka, we all do, but at least give her a chance, ok?"

"Yeah, I know. I'll try." you sighed and gave him a weak smile.

You grabbed the syrup and brought it to the table. You sat down on Sokka's left, Suki on his right. Sokka laid his hand on your thigh and gave you a reassuring look, which you appreciated. Breakfast went pretty smoothly, everyone cracking jokes and laughing. it was like old times, and you tried to enjoy it as much as you could. Even though Suki is Sokka's ex-girlfriend, she was still one of your best friends, And she didn't even know that you and Sokka were together.

Oh.

She didn't know you and Sokka were together.

How were you gonna tell her? How would she react? Does she still think Sokka's single?

You decided to put it aside for now, she'd find out soon enough.

"Thanks for cooking Kat, it was really good! You too y/n!" Suki said from the other side of the table.

"Of course!" Katara replied.

"No problem! Anytime," you said with a smile. Ok, that's progress.

Once you had all finished eating, Everyone sat down in the living room and were looking for a movie to watch. After about three minutes of scrolling through Netflix, Suki asked to talk to Sokka. In private. Yay! you knew you couldn't say no, so you just watched as they walked into the hallway until they were out of view.

"Well, this is horrible," Zuko said from his spot on the left side of the couch.

"Tell me about it," Toph said, "I can feel their heart rates, it's like they're running a marathon."

you didn't have anything to say except for "hnnnnnnggggggg" as you pulled a blanket over your head and laid down on your side, which earned a few laughs.

"Yeah, pretty much," Zuko responded, and you giggled from inside your blanket shelter.

You pulled the blanket down, so just your face was visible. You looked at Zuko and sighed, and you both broke out in a laughing fit. Soon enough everyone was laughing, but you all quickly stopped when Suki and Sokka walked back into the room.

You sat back up expectantly. Suki's ears were bright red, as were her nose and around her eyes. Had she been crying? it wasn't extremely noticeable, but you were able to point it out. Sokka had his hands at his sides and didn't make eye contact with anyone, not even you, which was concerning. The tension in the room grew, and there was even more than before.
