17- That Night

The day I dread arrives too quick. Everyone will be back from their Christmas holidays along with Draco Malfoy, who will surely have something to say about our magical night of kisses, dances and laughs.

I thought that everyone in the school knew about myself and Draco, especially Hermione. But as we ate our breakfast together, she seemed completely oblivious, sipping her tea and telling me all about how rude Ron was and how Krum acts like a kind gentleman in comparison.

She suddenly stops and places a consoling hand on my arm. "I'm sorry, I'm here rambling. You were all alone weren't you?" She says.

Shaking away my day dreams and excuses for Draco I force a smile. "It's okay, please continue. I want to hear all about your night." Or rather I just want something else to focus on. Something other than Draco's hands on my waist as we slow danced or how he tucked strands of my hair behind my ear before leaning in to kiss me.

Ron along with Harry who talks indistinctly to Cedric come over at sit down. A grumpy Ron quickly glances at Hermione but then looks away to grab a piece of toast.

Cedric on the other hand looks at me with a shameful look plastered on his face. He bites his lip and begins. "Lily, I feel awful. Seeing you at the Ball all alone. It's my fault, and I'm really sorry..."

I spin my mind, thinking of what I could say, lying to my only friends is something I hate, but the truth could never be let out.

A voice interrupts my thoughts. "Who said she was alone?" My heart sinks. A floppy haired Draco with a loose tie flops down beside me looking devilishly at Cedric.

I want to sink through the chair and into the floor as I see everyone's wide fiery eyes - not Cedric's, his look utterly confused.

I watch as he awkwardly shuffles away to his Hufflepuff table, and I notice everyone's eyes on us, gaping at the sight of the Golden Trio, the Slytherin Prince and and an unknown Ravenclaw girl sitting together.

Hermione looks at me with disbelief, mouthing what?!
Harry grits through this teeth. "What are you doing here Malfoy? You're not welcome."

Malfoy unaffected, smiles smugly. "Yes I know I'm not welcome at The Gryffindor table." Under his breath he mutters. "At least I belong in this school."
Under the table, his hand finds mine and our fingers intertwine. "I'm here to get my girl." My breathing stops altogether. In this moment, I want to disappear off the face of the earth.

"Malfoy-" I squeak unintentionally. "Please leave..."

He chuckles. "Sure love, I've got other stuff to do anyway." He surprisingly listens and proceeds to leave, but not before lifting our intertwined hands, letting everyone see.

I wait until he's completely gone, and when I've calmed down to turn back to my friends.

"You were at the Ball with him?!" Hermione gasps.

"Calm down Mione." Ron says, and Hermione glares at him. "He's probably lying as usual."

"How do you explain her tomato red face then?" She turns to me.

I cover my face and stare at my full plate, not wanting to take part in this conversation.

"Perhaps they just talked?"

"Why would he possibly talk to her?"

"Even if nothing happened. Look at her. Does she fancy that rotten, cruel, pathetic snake?"

Hermione shakes my arm so that I look at her.
"Lily, I know that Draco is a decent looking boy, but there's more important things to fantasise over, than looks. If you knew his vile personality."
