Moon

When

I was in

the backseat

of a car

head lulling sleepily

in the night

and leaning

against

the seatbelt,

I used to look out

my window

and see

the night

sky.

All at once,

I fell in love

with stars.

I would yawn

and my

slightly

dreaming

mind

would notice

how the night sky

was brighter

than the dark shapes

that I would realize

was part of

Earth

like me.

I'd let my head

fall

against the door

of the car

which

vibrated

 so fondly

and blink

at the twinkling

lights.

I'd notice the Moon

and

notice

it's following me.

That's when I'd smile

and finally close my eyes

knowing

the Moon

is keeping

me safe.

When I was in

the backseat

of a car

head lulling sleepily

in the night

and leaning

against the seatbelt

was when

I felt

the world

loved me

and I

loved it

back.

But

then

I realized

the Moon

had

never

seen

me

at

all.
