In the south pole, an old woman gathers her grandchildren to tell them the story of Avatar Kyoshi.

"- and that was when Kyoshi used the Avatar State to separate her home of Yokoya from the mainland. With earthbending, she drove cracks that went to the seafloor. Then she used airbending to push the new island away from Chin the conqueror. What he didn't know, however, was that the Avatar's bending had caused the earth that he was standing on to weaken. He fell to his death as the earth crumbled beneath his foot." Gran-Gran finished, looking at her three grandchildren. "But what happened next Gran-Gran?"asked her younger granddaughter, Katara.

"Then," the children's mother, Kya, said as she picked up Katara "Kyoshi went home and tucked in all the little children because it was their bedtime." Mizumi, the oldest giggled, but Sokka, the middle child stood up. "No way, she was the fiercest, violentist, awesomest Avatar ever! Why would she be a babysitter?"

"Maybe because part of an Avatar's responsibility is to be compassionate." Their father said,"Now say goodbye to Gran-Gran kids." Mizumi stood up and hugged her grandmother before following the rest of her family back to their igloo.

As Kya tucked her children in that night, Katara asked "Where is the Avatar, mom?" Their mother smiled sweetly at her youngest. "Nobody knows Katara. But, some say that he, or she, will be found by a great warrior and free the world from the Fire Nation." Katara smiled "now go to sleep, my little otter penguin." This made Katara laugh. She burrowed into her blankets. But before she closed her eyes, she asked "we'll play tomorrow, right mom?"

"Of course, now go to sleep." And she did.

But that was the last time any of them would be tucked in by their mother. Because the next day was the day their mother died.
