Chapter 14

Elijah paced around his desk, throwing papers all over the place as he tried figuring out where Lion could be. He had his team with him, but it wasn't enough to reassure his anger and sadness.

"Elijah, you gotta calm down, son." Shawn whispered, patting the man's shoulder, "if you don't calm down, I'm going to have to restrain you." Elijah swallowed. He couldn't risk being held back, not in a situation such as this one. A full day passed since Lion had been kidnapped. They checked Luxferd Hotel, Elijah's father's apartment building, and the alleyway near Luxferd, but no signs of Lion.

The man grew more and more riled, knowing Lion was in danger, such an innocent boy, and he could be pleading for mercy at this moment. Elijah read over a few more papers, analyzing every little detail.

"Have you boy's checked the condemned building on Earl Street?" Elijah turned towards his men, none of them nodding, "that's our last checkpoint. If he's not there, then they brought him out of town." Elijah gave out papers of the building's sectors, giving each of his men a second to look over the pictures.

Shawn pulled Elijah aside with a gentle tug, his face describing nothing but firing anger, "are you sure he brought him there? Does he have some attachment to that building?" Shawn questioned, noticing Elijah's change of expression.

Elijah handed Shawn one of the paper's, pointing to a small corner in the basement of the building, "Donovan used to capture small animals and kill them for the fun of it when he was a kid. It wouldn't surprise me if he were doing that with Lion." Shawn shrank in his posture, feeling sick as he imagined what happened to those animals, the crewed death they suffered.

Shawn nodded, handing Elijah the pictures of where they would be fronting, "I don't wanna talk about that anymore, so let's focus on our plan." Elijah let the smallest of smiles appear, although having Lion trot the back of his mind with worry, "Jack will head for the back door with Mary and Jill. They'll cause the perfect distraction for Donovan's men. At that point, Donovan will most likely be alone in front of the door or either inside the room with Lion." Elijah slowly nodded, "we can't risk having Lion killed or injured, even if he's in critical conditions. Instead of pushing forward, we'll make a detour with Harvey and Shel. It should buy us enough time to drag Donovan out of the building so we can get past them and grab Lion." Shawn tapped the papers on the table before neatly folding them, "any questions or better plans?" The man asked.

Elijah slowly began to feel exhausted by the anxiety he was feeling. The man was never put in such a tense situation until now, "what if this doesn't work, Shawn?" Elijah's deep, shaky voice rang through the silence, "what if he's already gone?" The man now had tears forming in his blue eyes, "I don't want to lose him too." Elijah admitted, the back of his hand gently wiping the falling tears.

Shawn leaned forward, placing a hand to Elijah's large shoulder, earning eye contact, "I will do- we will do everything in our power to save Lion and catch this bastard*, I promise you that." Shawn patted Elijah's shoulder as the man nodded, "now, let's go kick ass." Shawn curled his fist, bumping it with Elijah's as the two straightened themselves, "you guys know where you gotta be tonight. Make sure you've got yourselves ready. Donovan is quick-witted, cunning, and might be one of the most nerving men we have ever dealt with. I want you guys to be as bad as him; bring him down. We won't let him slip our hands again." Shawn smiled softly at the praises he earned from his speech, turning towards Elijah, who was already getting ready, "I was hoping we'd have one last drink before we go, but we can't be drunk on the job, so it'll have to wait." Shawn chuckled, patting Elijah's back.
