On the 12th hour of the first day of October 1989, 43 women around the world gave birth. This was unusual only in the fact that none of these women had been pregnant when the day first began. Sir Reginald Hargreeves, eccentric billionaire and adventurer resolves to locate and adopt as many of the children as possible.

He got seven of them.

However, that wasn't enough for the man. He also wanted the child of Dayna and Harry Smith. The child who he believed to be the strongest of them all, the child who had all of the powers the children he already adopted had and more. He tried to bribe them in every possible way he could think of but they only refused every single offer he gave them.

"Please Mrs. Smith I'll double the amount" Reginald Hargreeves tried to reason while pushing money into Dayna's hands.

"I'm not selling my daughter like a piece of meat," Dayna Smith told him while slapping his hands away.

After 1 year of Reginald Hargreeves trying to buy their child, they came to some sort of agreement, his requests were that once their child was an appropriate age she would train at his academy with his adopted children once or twice a week and that she would help his adopted children whenever they go on a mission.

Dayna and Harry Smith agreed to these terms and when the child was 11 they moved from England to America. Every Friday they would send their daughter off to the academy and get her back the Sunday night. On those Sunday nights, the two parents sat near their front door counting down the hours until their daughter came back home.

"It gets later and later every time," Dayna told her husband as she hugged her daughters' little teddy bear close to her chest.

"I sometimes wonder if he'll never give her back" He responded as he pulled her body closer to his.

River Smith had just finished finalizing everything for her new album Butterfly so that it was ready for March 30th. She sat back in her plush white chair and let out a happy sigh until her assistant rushed into the room. The girl's brown hair stuck out of her messy bun and her face showed clear signs of worry. River looked over at the distressed woman and went towards her.

"Chole what's wrong are you alright?" River asked concern laced in her voice soothing voice.

"Miss Smith I have Allison Hargreeves on the phone and she says it's an urgent matter," Chole told her.

River took the phone and was greeted by a familiar voice "Riv is that you?"

"Hey, Allison what's up?" River questioned.

Out of all the people from the Umbrella Academy River was still close to Allison they were both well-known celebrity's who had created a strong bond when they were younger. River was also quite close to Klaus however because he was always in and out of rehab she only saw him on occasions.

"River my dad... He died" Allison told her down the phone. River didn't feel any grief she was actually quite relieved that the man had gone he was a horrible person and the world was better off without him. The only reason she carried on training at the academy was because she still wanted to see the children she had made friends with.

"Oh my God Allison I am so sorry" River spoke.

"Do you think you could come to the academy for the funeral?" Allison asked.

River hesitated before answering "Allison I don't know I think it's a family-"

Before River could finish her sentence Allison cut her off "If you dare say it's a family thing I'm going to hit you in the face okay? You are my family Riv" She joked "Anyway you went through the same things we did and you have helped me out so much with the divorce and with Claire"

River let out a heavy sigh "I guess I could attend"

Allison let out a squeal of joy "I'm so glad you said yes I'll see you tomorrow" And then she hung up letting silence fill the room until River finally looked at her assistant.

"Can you clear my schedule for tomorrow I've got a funeral to attend to" She said to the brown haired girl

"I'm so sorry for your loss Miss Smith" Chloe spoke in a low voice.

River smiled at her "Don't be."
