Chapter 3

"Ok does this look good?" AJ asked as she stepped in front of her phone looking at her aunt who she had frantically face timed this morning.

"Add that brown jacket you always wear and then you are all set!" Ali told her with a grin.

AJ nodded and grabbed the dark brown trench like coat and threw it on. She was wearing a short sleeve black shirt that was tucked into a high waisted, button up jean skirt. AJ grabbed her heart locket and put it on smiling as she looked back at her phone.

"Perfect!" Ali exclaimed giving her a small thumbs up. "Now who's the boy or girl?"

"It's a boy and we are just friends," AJ glanced out her window towards Hawks house. "We just met yesterday."

"Hmmm okay," Ali laughed softly as she watched her niece closely "Can I get a name?"

"Hawk and he's apart Cobra Kai," AJ reluctantly told her aunt about her newfound friend. 

"He sounds perfect for you already," Ali teased as she watched her honorary niece blush a bright red. "I'm just messing with you kid"

AJ laughed "I know" she smiled down at her phone. Trying to brush off the fact that her face was burning up.

"Aubrey!" Her dad yelled up to her, "It's time to go!"

AJ sighed as she heard her name. She stood and grabbed her backpack from the corner of her room.

"Have fun at school kiddo," Ali told her with a confident smile. "Everything is going to be okay, you already have a friend there who's got your back and you have a pretty awesome aunt in Colorado who has your back."

The sentence pulled at AJ's heartstrings. Her aunt truly was the only one on her side.

"I miss you," AJ told her sadly.

"I miss you too AJ," She told her. "But I'll see you soon I promise. Now go!"

AJ giggled as she ended the call walking downstairs.

"Let's go we don't want to be late on our first days!" Emmet quickly kissed his wife before rushing out the front door.

AJ and her mom exchanged a look before laughing.

"He forgot this," Jennifer held out Emmets briefcase to her.

"Of course he did," AJ smiled a bit as she grabbed her dad's briefcase.

"Have a good day at school honey," Jennifer told her as she wrapped her up into a hug.

"I will," AJ muttered mostly trying to assure herself of that statement.

Jennifer smiled down at her daughter and smoothed out a curl before nudging her towards the door.

AJ walked out of the door and to the car. On her way there she saw Hawk in his driveway putting his helmet on before getting on his motorcycle.

"Wow," AJ muttered looking at the bike before back up at the boy.

Hawk noticed her looking and sent her a wave which she happily returned. With that he rode off towards the school.

AJ opened the passenger door and got into her dads car "Almost forgot something," she gestured to the briefcase.

"You are a life saver," Emmet pointed at her as he began to drive to the school.

AJ messed with her opal ring that she had on as she thought about what was to come at the new school.

"So are you excited?" Emmet asked after a moment in silence.
