Chapter 22

AJ changed out of Demetris shirt and jeans in the backseat of her car. She threw her hair up in a ponytail and grabbed her perfume. AJ still could smell a faint scent of dog food and tried to mask it as well as she could. But the minute she got home she planned to shower.

AJ walked up to the rest of the Eagle Fangs who were stretching.

"Hey." She nodded at all of them who looked at her in pity "Oh knock it off with the faces before I punch all of you."

They all quickly looked away from her besides Miguel and Johnny.

"Listen kid, if you wanted to go home and skip today that's understandable." Johnny said.

"Why would I go home?" AJ raised an eyebrow at him wondering why he was telling her that.

"Diaz told me what happened at school today." Johnny admitted.

AJ's eyes widened as she looked over at Miguel who slowly backed away from the girl.

"You told him?" AJ blinked in disbelief.

"He asked about school and if anything big happened today!" Miguel defended.

AJ huffed as she looked back at Johnny "I appreciate you letting me take the day off but I want to be here."

Johnny nodded with a small smile "Then line up!" He called out to all of them.

Miguel and AJ made their way to their spots. She brought her hand up and smacked the boy in the back of the head.

"Yeah I probably deserved that." Miguel nodded as he rubbed his head.

AJ laughed softly "Oh you think?"

The two stood next to each other as they waited for Johnny who was busy arguing with a boy with dreadlocks.

"But in all seriousness are you okay?" Miguel asked her softly.

AJ sighed "Well I did just cry in my car for who knows how long and when I get home I plan to shower and cry some more so I would say I'm doing pretty good."

Miguel frowned as he watched her. He didn't know why but he felt a sort of protectiveness over her. Miguel hated the fact that she was hurting so much and wanted to be there to help.

Just as he was about to say something Johnny walked back over with the frisbee.

"The goal is to hit the target and knock it out of my hands doing a simple kick." He explained as they all lined up to do the drill.

Bert was up first and walked up to Johnny getting into position before kicking it.

"Good Bert!" Johnny encouraged as the frisbee got kicked out of his hand "Remind me not to piss you off. Assface, you're next."

Mitch walked up to Johnny "Does my nickname gotta carry over from the previous dojo?"

"You wanna be penis breath?" Johnny held out the frisbee.

Mitch sighed and shook his head "Assface is fine." he kicked the frisbee out of Johnny's hand.

"Good penis breath!" Johnny called out making AJ laugh, "A-Mills you're up,"

AJ stepped up to Johnny and grinned before kicking it out of his hand. The frisbee went flying and almost hit a kid in the head.

"That's what I'm talking about!" Johnny laughed as AJ moved back in line, "Alright, Diaz, you're up."

Miguel walked up to Johnny and got into position.

"Imagine this is the guy I stole this frisbee from all right?" Johnny held it up, "Just picture his stupid white dreads."
