Brightness.

The sun was to the western part of the sky. Birds were flying right above the trees. A breeze of wind lightly brushed her skin. Afternoons were peaceful just how she liked it.

Every afternoon she would go out and watch the sunset. At least for a while. Mom had never let her stay outside for too long. "I wish I could play with the others."

She was always atop of the roof. Looking down at the children who run around and play. She didn't really know the reason why she couldn't. They didn't even know she existed in the first place.

She recognized those kids who was always top in the class. Mama had told her about everything going on outside. There was Norman, the platinum-blonde haired boy who always won tag. According to the children, he was the smartest among them. Then there was Emma, an orange-haired girl who has a bright smile and is always good at athletics. In her eyes she considered her as an average person who could catch up. Lastly, the raven-haired boy who always sits by the tree.

She was fascinated on how Ray could read books and never get bored. Sure, she can read books but when it's finished, she doesn't really know what to do.

She observed everyone everyday. To the boy who always wanted a rematch to the girl who always scolded the children.
But mostly, she had eyes on a certain person. That was Ray.

He was mysterious to her. She couldn't get the chance to go up and see him up close. Ray was always on his guard, even at sleep. One creaking sound of the floor and he'll turn around. That's why she was always cautious around him.

Mom didn't want her to expose herself and she didn't know the reason about it. Mom always says to be very careful in walking around late at night, or even at day. There were many things she was always reminding her. One of those things is to not let the three of them find out. She, of course knew who the three were. Top-scorers just like her.

Especially Norman, he was brilliant and notices even at the smallest of things. That applies to Ray too.

There were so many rules that she wanted to break them. It was boring without someone to talk to. And she was eleven, a growing child needs some friends too.

But of course she cannot break the rules. Mom was strict and also kind, to let her live even though she was a mix-up. Supposedly the orphanage would have forty kids in total and then they get adopted. She was a baby who was supposed to be adopted, but wasn't continued on.
