Ray sat on the wooden chair, a photograph on his hand. This was the picture he took when Norman was still around. He thought how funny Emma was when she was surprised by the sudden flash. He remembers how Norman laughed at the girl who had trouble rubbing her eyes. All of those thoughts in his head made him more sad.
Stupid Norman, he thought. The boy sacrificed himself so that they all could escape. What was he thinking? He thought Norman was tricking Emma on taking everyone and yet he was the one tricked. Just when they thought Norman could finally escape, he tricked him and Emma. What a smart boy.
He recalled the time when both Emma and him were crying because he had nightmares. It was a very endearing memory.
"D-don't worry it's not scary." Norman cries, holding Ray's hand.
Just thinking about what he had done was so frustrating. Norman's dead body appeared in his mind, making his eyebrows furrow even more.
"If Ray's sad we're sad too!" Emma exclaimed as tears ran down her puffy cheeks.
He tossed the picture on the table, sighing. Norman did the right thing but it didn't sit right with him. He was a friend, family, his own brother who he grew up with. He wasn't very talkative to anyone when they were small, and yet he found two close friends that he since then cherished in his heart.
That's why he's not going to give up. There was no time for mourning over the loss of a great friend. He won't let Norman die in vain. He'll let the others escape with no casualties. Maybe even persuading (Y/N) to come.
The girl had different beliefs, he suppose. (Y/N) might not have the best view of the world they're living in. Maybe she thinks that outside is more dangerous.
Judging by how she answered his question yesterday made him more confused about her intentions. She was easy to read but what she told him didn't match to what her eyes were saying. She was a puzzling girl.
But something made him more intrigued on finding more about her. She might not have the best childhood just like them. Maybe she endured many endless nightmares like him. Alone in her room that she was caged in. They might be similar in ways.
Convincing her to come will be hard but he wasn't going to give in. He had to at least save her too from the despair awaiting for her beyond the gates. Let her flee with Emma and the others.
He needs to let them escape and that's why he decided, for many years of planning, to die in the orphanage he grew up in. It wasn't troublesome since it was the only way. He'd deemed his life as a curse so why not end his life in the place where he suffered most?
He wasn't going to let the demons eat his flesh. No matter what, he'll do anything just to let them escape.
He would set up to be a distraction. So Isabella would have trouble getting him out of the fire. Yes, he will burn the Gracefield house and himself. Call him suicidal but you can't blame the boy.
