"Yes, dad, I'll make sure to text you when I get home. I'll lock the door behind me, everything. I'm not as dumb as you think I am."
Hotch hugged Logan. "I do not think you are dumb, Logan. Sometimes a little childish, but not dumb."
Logan hit him lightly on the arm, walking out of his office. "Words can hurt, you know."
"It was from a place of love. You know that!" The door shut behind Logan, leaving Hotch with a smile on his face. Logan was going back home, even though the rest of the agents had to stay to do some paperwork. Hotch was getting more and more protective of her ever since the phone call, which was getting increasingly annoying to Logan.
The teenager walked through the desks, saying goodnight to the team and waving her goodbyes. She was going to come back the next morning, but she didn't know if they would get an urgent case anytime soon or not, so it was never too late to say goodbye.
Jack, Hotch's son, was waiting in her car when she got in. For her birthday, the team had all pitched in to get her a new car, one she promised to take care of as if it was someone else's. Logan was so excited to find out that she got a car, she refused to let anyone else drive it.
"Can I play the music?" the five-year-old asked politely from the backseat.
Logan smiled. "Of course, pick's all yours. Just don't play anything dad would play. His music taste is seriously in need of correction." Jack giggled and Logan pulled out of the parking lot, beginning their drive. On her way home, she was going to drop the kid off at one of his friend's house for a playdate, so Logan would have the house all to herself.
The teenager's mind wandered to the mysterious phone call she had received only a few days ago. The team hadn't found any new leads, so the case went cold, stopping at the hitman who killed himself. Logan scoffed. That guy really must have been crazy if he would have rather died than giving up the name of his boss.
Logan pulled up to Jack's friend's house, seeing the parents waiting on the porch with their son. She waved to them and turned to Jack.
"What are the rules?" she asked him.
"Be polite, always ask if you want something, call you if I need anything," recited the boy.
Logan nodded. "Good. If you don't know my phone number, your friend's parents will know dad's. But have fun, okay? Love you." Jack mumbled the same phrase back to her and jumped out of the car, closing the door behind him. Logan watched him waddle up the steps and walk inside, waving one more time at the parents before pulling out.
When Logan got back to the house, she made sure to lock the house behind her. Hotch made her the most paranoid out of everyone in the BAU, even though everyone else always told her to watch her back wherever she went.
The first thing Logan did was look in the fridge for food. She hadn't gotten dinner yet, and she was hungry. As expected, there was nothing. Hotch was not a very good shopper for kids. He never had anything good in the house to eat, and the family usually only ate takeout.
Sighing, Logan took out her phone to order a pizza. After she did, she called her dad. It went straight to voicemail, also as expected.
"Hey, Hotch," began Logan. "It's Logan. I don't know why I'm calling you, but I am so I guess you can deal with it. I just ordered some pizza, since you have no food in your fridge. Like, how many times have I asked you to stock up the refrigerator? Too many, in my opinion."
Logan walked through the house, towards her room, where her dog was sleeping. She had gotten the Pomeranian for her birthday as well, deciding to name the fluffy cutie Poppy. Logan scratched her head, before continuing to talk on the voicemail. "This is going to be a long voicemail, so just get ready for that. Jack's over at his friend's house, so I'm going to be alone for a while until you finally come home. I was thinking about binging my tv show, but I haven't been able to find it anymore, so I'm sad about that.
"Do you have any ice cream in here?" she asked, looking into the freezer that was down in the basement. "I thought you might have at least left some in here for those late nights, but no. You're just as boring as I thought."
With a sigh, the teenager flopped down on the couch in the living room, holding the phone to her ear. "Have you ever tried taking a vacation? I know you probably get vacations, but you're boring, so I was just wondering. Maybe you would want to take one with me and Jack sometime? I don't know, just a thought."
The doorbell rang, and Logan looked at the door. "Oh, pizza's here. You might not want to listen to all of this, but I bet if you really loved me, you'd have made it to the end." She chuckled. "I'm just kidding. I love you and don't work too hard. Bye."
Logan set her phone on the couch and got up to get the pizza, grabbing some cash on her way there. She opened the door to a man in a red cap, holding a pizza box. They exchanged cash for pizza, and went their separate ways. Logan closed the door with her foot. She thought it closed behind her.
Logan made her way back into the kitchen and set the pizza down on the island, immediately opening it to eat, due to her grumbling stomach. She didn't hear the footsteps creeping closer over her own humming.
Danger was lurking nearer, but Logan had no idea. She turned to the refrigerator to get a drink, when she was struck from behind.
Logan fell to the floor, but wasn't knocked unconscious. She struggled against the hand that was clenched around a piece of her hair, making as much noise as possible. Her attacker covered her mouth with his hand, bringing his mouth to her ear.
"Talk and I'll kill you right now," the man growled. A click of a gun resounded from right next to her face, and Logan stopped. "Good girl."
"What do you want?" Logan demanded as soon as he took his hand away from her mouth.
"You." Then, it all went black as the handle of the gun came in contact with the top of her head.
