(( TW // So, hospitals (duh) but also George mentions hearing his own blood as well as getting claustrophobic due to anxiety ))
Begging.
Praying.
Bargaining.
Wishing.
Hoping.
A three hour drive. Three hours he was trapped in a car. A car. Very similar to the one who almost costed his sister and his lover their lives. Costed. It could still cost them. Clay was dangerously close.
The snow had long since stopped at this point, the roads were clearer thought he still drove slow. And somehow, he made it back to his home town in record time.
It was nearing dawn now. Rays of gold and blue streak across the sky. The shimmering morning light reflected off the freshly laid snow. Snow. How George hated the snow. It had taken everything from him. And he had no doubt it would continue to do so.
When Dawn kissed the sky and turned it blue, George pulled the car into the parking lot of the hospital. Out of instinct, George drove to the spot he parked in when he worked it. It took him a moment to realize that this was wrong and he chose another space.
Once his car became still, George practically leaped from his seat and slammed the door shut, wasting absolutely no time.
A weird sense of Deja vu washed over him like a wave crashing over the beach.
So much had happened in this hospital.
Wasn't this the place where George and Dream met for the first time? Dream... that was his name back then. Dream. Like a dream boy. Someone George could only dream about.
This hospital was where they met. Wouldn't it just be so romantically tragic if it was also the home of their last time together-
"No." George verbally hissed out under his breath. "Don't think like that... they'll be okay-"
"George?" A familiar voice called out, the tone carried heavy guilt and worry.
George slowly looked up to where the voice came from.
Dan was seated at his normal spot behind the receptionist desk. His eyes still that diamond silver color. Though his face seemed it had aged several decades. "I thought it was you."
"Where are they...?"
"Eliza is on the second floor in the stable unit. I think she's awake right now."
"And... and Clay...?"
"Critical care unit... on the 5th floor." Dan's voice was heavy, sorrowful carefully threaded into his words.
"Thank you..."
Nervously, George started to tug at the sleeves of his sweater. He stretched out the hymn, pulling it and wrapping it around the tips of his fingers.
He started on his way to the second floor.
As George walked, he could hear nothing but his own footsteps. If you asked him in the moment, he would have sworn he could even heard the own rush of his blood pumping through his veins.
In the evaluator, the small enclosed box, George felt as if the walls were closing in on him. He couldn't breath. It was too small, moving too slow. Why was he so anxious? Why was he so nervous about seeing his sister and Clay?
Ding!
The soft chime of the elevator doors opening brought George back from his vicious thoughts. When the doors slid open, a familiar face greeted him on the other side.
