It's been a week now since the nightmare. It's imprinted into your brain, the face of your father as you kill him in cold blood, the face of your mom as she sees it. With all the bad things you've seen or done in your life, you wouldn't have thought it'd be a dream that haunts you.
It's been a week now since the dream, and Spencer Reid still sleeps next to you every night. You protest every time, but he doesn't want to risk you waking up screaming again and being all alone. You protest every time, but you like it. You hate that you like it, but it's comforting knowing someone is there. Even when you've gotten used to being alone.
You and Spencer are sitting on his bed. It's the morning, and you've just woken up. Spencer is sitting propped up against his headboard reading a book. His eyes move quickly across the pages, fingers moving down with each line.
"Good morning," he says, finishing the sentence he was reading.
You sit up, rubbing your eyes. "Good morning," the words come out in a mumble.
"Did you sleep well?" Spencer closes the book and sets it down on his night stand.
"I guess." You haven't been sleeping much for a while, but these past couple days it's been getting better.
"Would you like to go get some breakfast?"
"Yes, I would." You smile, knowing you need a coffee right now. You get off his bed, grab a pair of clothes, and change in the bathroom.
On the way out, you say "You know, I can go back to the hotel if you're sick of taking care of me."
"I'm definitely not sick of taking care of you."
"I'm not use to having people pity me, I don't know how I feel about it."
"I don't pity you, Y/n. Yeah, I feel bad about what happened to you, but that's because I'm a decent human. I've grown fond of you I suppose."
You give him a smile, "You're a great guy, Spencer. I'm fond of you as well."
He looks away, cheeks a bit flushed. You two make it to a cafe and take your seats. You order an iced coffee and waffles.
Spencer catches you stealing a glance of him while he takes a bite of his breakfast. He gives you a look of question, and you just chuckle. What is going on sigh you?
Remembering what you're with Spencer for in the first place, you start to ask him something. But before you can get the sentence out, his phone rings.
He answers it, stepping outside and gesturing for you to follow. It's his boss, Agent Hotchner.
"Y/n, I..."
"You have to go. I get it." You nod your head.
He takes you back to his place quickly.
"You're welcome to anything in the fridge, there's some money on the counter if you want to order anything. If you need anything just call me..."
"Spencer, I'll be okay."
"Right," he sighs. "I mean it. If you need..."
You press your lips to his softly. "Be safe."
Spencer blushes, nodding his head. "Goodbye."
"Bye, Spencer."
You're not sure why you kissed him. You didn't really mean to honestly. But maybe it'll help with the plan.
You plop down on Spencer's couch with a sigh. God knows how long he'll be gone or where he's going. So this could mean a day or a bunch of days of sleeping alone. Great.
You take off your boots and set them beside the couch. Time is ticking, Spencer's leaving, and you're alone.
"You're just one call away from being on a hit list, baby sis."
You press your lips together, stopping them from shaking. "I'm trying. I swear Aiden, I'm trying."
"Trying isn't cutting it."
"I know," you sigh. "I know. It's just that I can't just flat out ask a bunch of questions without getting caught. I want this to work, I want to get you out, but it can't be like that."
"Fine. I've got to go." He hangs up. You know phone calls in prison aren't that short, but it's whatever.
You crawl into Spencer's bed. It's strange being in there alone. It's cold and quiet. His weird but sometimes interesting facts aren't there to fill the silent void.
Sleep slowly comes to you sometime in the middle of the night. Dreams swirl in your unconscious mind, not pleasant ones either. Luckily, you hardly remember anything when you wake up. You just have the feeling that they were uncomfortable and bad.
