The story takes place in the Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon universe, just after the infamous Terrace scene.
The show revolves around two characters, Arnav Singh Raizada and Khushi Kumari Gupta. Both are orphans from the city of Lucknow, but their personalities are a complete contrast to one another. While Arnav is an angry and stone hearted atheist businessman, Khushi is a chirpy small-town girl whose best friend is her favourite goddess, Devi Maiya.
From the time Khushi fell into Arnav's arms during his fashion show held in Lucknow, their paths became entwined. Their story, which began in Lucknow, continued in Delhi. They always challenged each other, and brought the worst out of each other during their fights, but the more they collided, the more were they attracted to one another.
After many months of continuous fights and insults from both sides, their attraction overpowered their hard-headedness, and Arnav was ready to bow down to his heart and accept his feelings for Khushi. Yes, he had fallen, fallen hard for a young, crazy and stunningly beautiful woman and he was ready to ask her hand for marriage (even though he didn't believe in the institution of marriage), on the night of his brother's marriage to her sister, which happened to be Valentine's day.
But destiny had something else in store for him.
When he arrived at the terrace of his own house, he saw a scene which broke his heart into pieces. The girl, who had broken all the walls of his heart, making it beat again, was now breaking it herself. Khushi was in the arms of his brother-in-law.
The man, who had brought a smile on his sister's face after all the miseries they had faced in their life, was now embracing another woman, a girl almost half his age, saying that he had never loved his wife. But what shattered him the most was that Khushi was telling Shyam, his beloved brother-in-law, to abandon his sister.
He just couldn't take it; he felt dizzy in anger and grief, and stormed down the terrace, not hearing the rest of the conversation. Arnav just couldn't take it anymore. Could destiny be crueler to him? He and his sister were both being betrayed by the ones they loved. He knew it. He had always known that love was just an illusion, and it always ends only in betrayal.
Arnav paced in his room like a caged lion. He gazed at the sky outside, standing in the same place where she had once told him that his mother lived on as a star. He couldn't think straight. Could he have been so blind that he didn't see that the girl who he was wooing throughout his brother's marriage rituals was having an affair with his brother-in-law, a married man? Under his very own roof?
The answer was that he doesn't know. He so wanted to trust his heart, which pleaded for her innocence, but he was more of a mind over heart kind of person. And right now, his mind could comprehend nothing. He was deep in thoughts, still pacing the length of his luxurious bedroom, when he heard the door opening. He was about to shout at the intruder when he saw the tiny figure of a shivering Khushi. A second later, the figure crashed on him, causing him to stumble a few steps back because of the force of impact.
To say that it confused him would be an understatement.
What was she doing here? Why was the girl who always stepped away from him, throwing herself at him? A similar scene crossed his mind of a time she did the same thing in a hospital hall, when her father had a heart attack. But that beautiful memory was immediately replaced by another one in which he saw her in the arms of another man.
He was about to push her away, rage bubbling inside him, when he heard something that caused him to be even more confused if it was possible.
"Arnav,"
His name uttered so softly in her faint, barely audible voice, but not in the same way as before penetrated his coldness. It wasn't Arnav ji, ASR or her personal favourite, Laad Governor. Just Arnav. And that was enough for his heart to overpower his mind; he wrapped his arms around her and let her sob in his arms, soothing her with his husky voice.
A misunderstanding. This whole thing ought to be a misunderstanding, and he was ready to hear her out. She was innocent and she will surely explain everything.
Maybe that was just a drama? One of her infamous far-fetched plans for god knows who or what. But why was she crying?
Argh!!! His mind started to race all over again. He didn't even sense it when she disentangled herself from him just enough to stare in his eyes. Her piercing gaze brought him back to reality, and her next words made him shiver because of the intensity with which they were uttered, despite the soft tone of her voice:
"Arnav, I have to tell you something. Please don't interrupt me. I'm sorry, I should have told you earlier, but I was afraid to hurt you, but now, I can't take it anymore. Arnav, please hear me out, and ... please try to tru-us-t me" she stuttered at the end and her voice was shaking.
