Below The Surface

Caroline's weekend wasn't much different from what how it always went. After Alex dropped her off, she went to bed and slept in on her Saturday and on Sunday, she went to church with her parents like she always did. When Monday came, she was slightly depressed because she had to go back to her classes. However, for the part, she was excited to see Naomi, Michelle, Jessica, and Taylor again. When she got to school, she ran into Michelle.

"Hi Michelle" said Caroline. Michelle heard her name and turned around to see Caroline. "Oh hey Caroline," she said "by the way, where did you go after the dance? We got separated and we couldn't find you anywhere."
"I was looking for you guys too," said Caroline "but don't worry. Everything went okay. I got a ride home from someone." "Oh okay," said Michelle "who?" "His name is Alex" said Caroline. When she said that, Michelle stared at her with her eyes widened. "Alex Thomas," Michelle asked "11th grader. Blonde hair? Blue eyes? Drives a black mustang?" "Yes that's him," said Caroline with curiosity in her voice "do you know him?" "Yeah I know him alright," Michelle said as she nodded her head "listen Caroline. I don't think it's smart of you to be around that guy. Trust me. He is bad news." "Why what happened?" asked Caroline. "Well for one thing," said Michelle "he's been arrested several times. Also, he's Naomi's ex boyfriend." "Oh my goodness," said Caroline with a surprised face "okay I won't hang around him." "Okay good" said Michelle.

Later that day, Caroline saw Alex at his locker talking to one of his friends. At first, she resisted going over there and talking to him after what she heard about him. But there was something about him that pulled her in like a fish. So when Alex's friend walked away, she walked up to him slowly. "H-hi Alex" she said. When she spoke, Alex looked at her with a neutral expression. "Caroline," he said "what's up? How was your weekend?" "It was alright," he said "how was yours?" When she said, Alex shrugged his shoulders. "Well just the same old stuff," he said "well I'm gonna get going. I'll see you around." When he said, he closed his locker and started walking away. As he was walking, he stopped and looked back at Caroline. "Hey I was gonna get some pizza," he said "you want to come with me?" When he asked, Caroline looked at him with a startled expression. "Are you asking me out on a date?" she asked. "Well personally," Alex said "I would call it two people just eating. But you call it whatever you please to call it. So are you in or out? I'm buying." "Well okay then," said Caroline "I'll come with you."

They walked to his car and Alex drove to a near by pizza parlor. As they were eating, Caroline couldn't help but want to ask him some question. "Are you Naomi's ex boyfriend," she asked "have you ever been arrested?" When she asked that, Alex looked at her and then he spoke. "Yes and yes," he said "and let me guess. Michelle told you that." Caroline was so surprised to hear him say that. "Yes she did," she said "how did you know?" "Because" said Alex "there's only two people that know those the things. Naomi and Michelle. And between those two, Michelle is only one who can't keep her mouth shut." When he said that, Caroline was surprised to. "Don't worry," Alex said "I'm not going to hurt you. After we finish eating, I'll drive you home. "Okay" said Caroline.

Alex kept his word. Once they finished eating, Alex paid the bill and drove Caroline home. When they pulled up to Caroline's house, Alex just looked at. "What it is?" asked Caroline. "You are way too serious," said Alex "lighten up for Christ's sake." "You're right," said Caroline "I'll see you tomorrow." "Alright later" said Alex. After that, Caroline left Alex's car and went inside of her house.

When she walked inside, her father was in the living. "Hey sweetheart" he said. "Hi dad" said Caroline. Caroline's mother looked outside the window and saw Alex driving off. "Hey who's the guy in that black car?" she asked. "Oh that's Alex from school," Caroline said "he just dropped me off." "Oh alright so where did you guys go?" Caroline's mother asked. "We just went to get some pizza" said Caroline. "That sounds like a date to me" said Caroline's father. "It wasn't a date dad" said Caroline. "Okay if you say so" Caroline's mother said as she shook her head. "Okay," said Caroline "well I'll be in my room." After that, Caroline went up to her room, forced herself to her homework and went to bed.
