It was just another regular day at Joseph Anderson high school. The only thing different was that there was a new student. Her name was, Caroline Brooke. She was in the 9th grade, she was 14 years old, and she had brown hair and green eyes. She was extremely quiet and never got into any trouble.

As she carried her books to her next class, she was staring down at the floor hoping nobody would notice her. It was her first day and she was very nervous. When she walked into her Biology class, her teacher waved at her. "Hello sweetheart," the teacher said "my name is, Ms. Hughes. What is your name?" Ms. Hughes was a beautiful woman. She was African American and was in her early thirties. She was extremely sweet and an accepting person to students of all types. "Oh hello," Caroline said in a rather shaky voice "m-my name is Caroline Brooke. " As she said that, Ms. Hughes just smiled at her. "Well just have a seat right there." said Ms Hughes. With that, Caroline made her way to her seat and waited for the other students to enter the room.

As they came in, a few of them looked at Caroline with some smiles and others with curiosity. Noticing this, Ms. Hughes looked at her and stood up in front of the class as they were sitting down. "Alright class, please take your seats, " said Ms. Hughes "as you may have noticed, we have a new student." When she said that, Caroline's face was turning red and she was tempted to just disappear. Then Ms. Hughes, with a friendly hand gesture to support it, she looked at Caroline and said, "Come on up here and tell us a little about yourself honey." At first, she hesitated, but then a girl behind her tapped Caroline on her shoulder and told her, "You're gonna have to do it. We all had to in the beginning of the year." When she said that, Caroline walked up to the front of the class still looking down at the floor and talked to the class. "Um, well my name is, Caroline Brooke, " said Caroline "and I like music and soccer." After she said that, Caroline calmly but eagerly made her way back to her seat.

After that, Ms. Hughes got back up in front of the class. "Well it is very nice to meet you Caroline," said Ms. Hughes "now everyone please turn to page to page number 104 in your Biology textbooks."

When Biology class ended, lunch came around. As she got her lunch and sat down at empty table, Caroline noticed four girls walking towards her. "Hey, you're the new girl in Biology class. Caroline right?" asked one of the girls. At first, Caroline was a little hesitant, but then she finally found the strength to spoke. "Y-yes that's me. What is your name?" "Well my name is Naomi," the girl said "these are my friends, Jessica, Taylor, and Michelle." All four girls were very friendly and accepting towards Caroline, which made her feel relieved. At first, she was worried that she wouldn't make any friends. "Oh by the way, there's actually a dance coming in about 2 weeks I'm pretty sure," said Michelle "we're not going with any boys. We're just gonna go with each other as friends. You want to come with us?" At that moment, Caroline smiled for the very first time that whole day. "Of course," she said "I mean I have to ask my mom first but I'm sure it'll be okay." "Alright then," said Jessica "see you later." "Bye" said Caroline.

Once school ended, Caroline went home. When she walked through the door, her mother was cooking in the dinner. "Oh hi Caroline" said her mother. "Hey mom" said Caroline. "I hope your first day of school went well," said her mother "did you make any new friends?" Caroline smiled and said, "Actually yes I did. Hey mom there's a dance coming up in two weeks. Can I please go?" "Sure, I don't see why not," said her mother "you know Caroline, I'm sorry your father and I moved you out here without asking how you felt about it." "It's alright mom, I understand," said Caroline "Dad got an amazing job offer out here and it was best for him to accept. Besides, for me, everything is going great so far. Well I'll be in my room if you need me." "Okay" said her mother. With that, Caroline went up to her room, finished her history homework, ate her dinner in her room like she usually did, and went to bed.
