Disclaimer: I wanted an original idea for a contest that Iris would hold for her husband, and I realized that there couldn't be any better competition than that of Kiera Cass' famous book series, the Selection! If any of you people out there have any other ideas for Iris' competition, then my thinking box is open to you (by that, I mean the comments section). Remember, I need original ideas, and please don;t take any other concepts from book series!

Iris POV

I pulled myself into the castle, hugging my waist, while silent tears streamed down my face. My complexion was red, and my legs ached from running so much. My father awkwardly hugged me, which was one-sided.

"Iris," Lev sighed, "I didn't want to make you choose between Ephedia and Earth."

Standing up straighter, I silenced him with a wave of my hand.

"No, Lev," I paused, coming up with a good enough lie, "it was of my own free will." The click of my heels seemed so loud on the marble floor, which was coated with dust, since the maids had the day off.

Mother was pacing in the throne room, playing with her fingers.

"Iris!" she rushed towards me, enveloping me in a hug.

"Mom!" I hugged her tight, and I heard her whisper, "Ouch."

"Sorry."

"It's okay," she reassured me, then stretched, "just some back issues."

Laughing, my father scooped her up in his arms, and she yelped playfully.

"Goodness, Harrick, put me down!" she commanded, and the throne room echoed her pleas.

"Never, Queen Aeliana." he snickered, and continued to swing her around. Lev was surprised, and shielded his eyes from the awkward scene that was laid out before us. So did I, and while Father continued to swing her around, her dress hung out like a blossoming flower. Even while casual, she looked Queenly.

"Iris! Wait! Don't go!" she shouted, but it was hard to take her seriously while my Father was still swinging her.

She regained her composure, and tapped my Father to put her down.

"I would like to conversate with you." she pointed at me, and Lev stepped aside, bowing as he did.

My Mother gently ushered me to my room, which was still as I had left it. She closed the door, and I sat on the chair facing my vanity. Pulling up my hair, she started to braid it.

"Iris, I'm not getting any younger," she started the french braid.

"Yes, I know," I joked.

"No, Iris," she sighed, and finished the braid with a tie, collapsing on the bed.

I fell on the bed next to her, and she smiled at me.

"I think you should become Queen."

I sat straight up.

"But!" I protested.

"Ah." she held up her hand to silence me.

"You need to choose a King."

I hesitated. Her face was patient, but her smile was impish.

"Iris?"

I couldn't speak. I thought I had chosen Lev, but the news that had been brought to me was scary. I didn't think that Lev could handle it. He loved me, didn't he? I paused, sucking in a breath.

"Iris!" my mother called.

I snapped back into reality.

"Yes?"

"Have you chosen?"

"Yes."

"I don't know!" I confessed.

She smiled smugly and whispered, "I'll see what I can do." She left the room, humming in the hallway again.

"Knock knock." someone whispered. They came into the room, their shoes clacking on the wooden floor.

"Lev!" I snapped back up to face him. "What was that all about?"

"Nothing."

"Okay..." he paused, as if he were about to say something. "Well, I have to go get something. I'll see you later, sweetie."

He kissed me on the cheek, and left.
