It was late afternoon, and Jake's friendly neighbour was still at their home. Jake didn't mind at this point, even apologizing from his side for his behaviour. Sunghoon made his point firm, and Jake believed him with every fibre of his being. Sunghoon loved him, and that's all the reassurance he needed. Sunghoon wasn't property — Jake didn't own him. He was allowed to make friends, and Jake shouldn't stop him.
"To be honest," Sunoo piped up suddenly, "the last home owners only stayed here for 2 years. I don't know if you met them, but they didn't like me. They thought I was annoying."
"Oh, how terrible," Mrs Sim tutted, shaking her head. "I think you're lovely, Sunoo. You're quite warm, and that makes you a good match for us."
"Yes, the last family was of ice so it was difficult to communicate effectively with them," Sunoo nodded. "But I'm glad such nice people moved in. It's nice to have such a refreshing family."
"When Jake and Sunghoon found one another, our home became a bit warmer," Hyuna smiled, looking at her brother and his soulmate. "They're really happy, and it's really cute. Sunoo-ssi, when do you think you'll meet your soulmate?"
"Oh, I really don't know," Sunoo replied with a slight laugh. "I haven't gotten any sort of feeling recently, but I'll wait however long I have to. My soulmate and I will meet one day, I'm not in a rush. I'm only 17 right now, anyways."
"Jakey just turned 18, so I know you two will geg along just fine," Mrs Sim smiled. Jake looked at Sunghoon and flinched, blushing brightly when he caught Sunghoon staring at him. His eyes were filled with stars and sheer love, and it caught Jake off guard. "Sunoo, do you know any good places to visit around here? We've been indoors since we got here and we haven't had any time to explore."
"The place is rather secluded, so there isn't much to do here," Sunoo hummed, shaking his head. "There are hiking trails and forest clearings, as well as the large lake, but other than that, this countryside isn't very interesting."
"Since we lived here for quite a bit," Sunghoon piped up, "we could take the Sim family around, huh? Have you been to Uncle Hyeokjoo?"
"Ah, the farm!" Sunoo exclaimed. "Down the pass is Uncle Hyeokjoo's farm. He allows free entry, and has a vegetable stall. His son tends to the animals, and it's really cute."
"The river mouth, too," Sunghoon suggested. "I wanted to take Jake there, since it's a famous wishing spot. We can watch the sunrise together from there, since the mouth is directed to the east."
"Oh, that's right," Mrs Sim gasped. "Jake and Sunghoon haven't even had their first date together yet."
"Ah, Mom, there isn't any rush," Jake said quickly, his cheeks burning pink. "Besides, we're… n-not confirmed boyfriends yet. There's no rush."
"But I wanted to go on a date soon," Sunghoon hummed, looking at Jake. "What do you say, huh? Should we take a day to ourselves? Tomorrow?"
Jake was still blushing and helplessly looked at his sister, who simply gave a shrug. Jake bit his lips together and nodded shyly. Sunghoon smiled brightly and Mrs Sim clapped her hands together with a bright grin. Jake sighed softly, putting his head on Sunghoon's shoulder to hide his reddening face.
"Ah, you two are really cute, I'm so jealous," Sunoo complained, crossing his arms. "But I'll wait however long I have to, if it means waiting forever. I know we'll meet." He sighed, getting off his seat beside the counter. "I best be off. It was so lovely to meet you all today."
"Oh, it's no problem," Mrs Sim smiled, getting up as well. "You're quite a pleasant boy, Sunoo. We'd love to have you over again at some point."
"Maybe this Saturday, I can take you to Uncle Hyeokjoo," Sunoo smiled. "We're good friends with him, the Kim family, and it'll be easy access if I'm with you."
"Let's walk him out," Sunghoon smiled, getting up as well. Jake stood up and Sunghoon took his hand. It made Jake smile to have that extra bit of reassurance from his soulmate. "Jake, I think I should head home tonight as well. We'll see each other tomorrow for our date."
Jake widened his eyes. "Oh. Well, then we can get your things together after this."
"Thank you for having me," Sunoo smiled, bowing politely to the family. "Please enjoy the desserts, I might end up making more. When I do, I'll make sure to bring some over."
"It was lovely to have you here," Hyuna smiled, ruffling his hair. Sunoo bowed one last time before turning around to leave their home. They watched for a few seconds before Hyuna closed the door. "Oh, what a nice boy."
"Those of warmth are always nice," Mrs Sim smiled. "Oh, Changmin was so difficult in the past. But when we finally spoke, we just clicked. Yes, I was the loudest person in my grade, but we got along just fine."
"He's actually really bright," Jake commented. "Mom, Sunghoon's going home tonight."
"Oh, why don't you go with him?" Mrs Sim suggested, walking to the kitchen again. "I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem."
"It really wouldn't — I'd enjoy the company, in fact," Sunghoon smiled, looking at his soulmste with a smile. "We can head to my home together, and you can spend the night. How's that, Jakey? I'll keep a respectful distance, I swear."
Mrs Sim raised an eyebrow as she crossed her arms. "Making promises like that makes me worried, Sunghoon."
"I wouldn't let him do anything inappropriate, anyways," Jake muttered, leaning against Sunghoon affectionately. His warmth overcame Sunghoon at that moment, and they were filled with love all over again. Their hearts, joined as one, made their relationship grow stronger with each passing moment.
"Take care of my little brother, Sunghoon," Hyuna said, bumping into the two to earn their attention, "because if you don't, I'll kill you." Sunghoon raised an eyebrow and she smiled brightly. "I'm joking, obviously. But please, Sunghoon — Jake means a lot to me. As a sibling and a support system. I don't care that you're his soulmate — just don't hurt him."
Jake was quiet for a bit before pouting and gently hitting Hyuna's arm. "Don't scare him like that, noona. It's okay, Sunghoon."
Sunghoon nodded, but he was still worried. He had absolutely no intention on hurting Jake ever, and not only because he was afraid of angering Hyuna. Jake was his soulmate, his love — his warmth. Sunghoon would never intentionally hurt Jake, and would do his absolute best to make sure no accidents happened. He would care and love Jake until the end of time.
Because they were in love, weren't they?
