"Don't stay out too long, sweetie."
"Don't worry, I'll be fine."
The wind attacked Jake's hair almost immediately as soon as he opened the door, causing him to become slightly disheveled immediately. He smiled, however - he wasn't quite used to the cold temperatures, and it was much different from his home is Brisbane. He tightened his coat, walking out the yard and closing the door behind him. The cold bit at his cheeks and the tips of his ears, but it was okay.
He quite liked the cold.
He walked down the gravel path, the sound of the small stones beneath his shoes becoming rather therapeutic and time passed. The boy's hands dug into his coat to prevent further chilliness from cold.
"It's much colder than I thought it would be..."
Jake had no idea where he was walking, but he had the intention of exploring his new residency. He would probably get lost, but he was okay with that. He'd probably get found along the way, or somehow make his way home again. The area was barely occupied due to the cold, and he was okay with the temperature.
After all, he was the boy of fire.
Jake shivered slightly, but he warmed himself up a bit and trekked on, coming along to the seaside he missed. The bitter cold caught him off guard, since there was nothing to block the breeze. Jake looked out at the horizon, a small smile on his lips. He began thinking about his new life in the cold countryside of northern South Korea. Would he like it? Would his brother fit in as well? Would their parents finally be happier? Their life in the city was unfulfilled, and they decided that moving would do them better.
His eyes drifted over the rocky seashore close to where he stood, the waves crashing and spraying water everywhere. But he was okay with it - he loved the feeling. But his eyes stopped on the figure standing on the rocks, their body getting soaked by the waves crashing against the cliff-like seashore.
"Is he..." Jake frowned, leaning forward slightly as he tried to focus on the person standing on the rocks. He could see the person's skin through their white shirt - they must've been standing there for a while. Jake widened his eyes as the person turned around, making piercing eye contact. His heart thumped in his chest at that short moment.
And Jake sensed it. That aura of someone like himself, someone unknowingly broken. Someone that needed closure, warmth - someone that needed change. Jake's hands were shaking as he maintained eye contact with the person standing so far away. The boy of fire felt his body stiffen as he looked at him.
The boy of ice.
Jake gulped, his body finally relaxing as the boy looked away. Jake felt worries - why was he standing out so close to the ocean? He would freeze to death, and Jake was sure no one wanted to die due to hypothermia. With worried eyes, Jake looked for a way to get onto the rocks. Sure, he knew the person was a stranger, but Jake was drawn to him.
"Hey! Get away from there!"
"Sim Jaeyoon."
He stopped in his tracks immediately. His heartbeat slowed down significantly, and the person looked at him again. Jake looked into his eyes as time seemed to slow down. Jake gulped nervously as the boy, although almost 50 metres away, sent him a small smile. The boy of ice took a step forward, and Jake felt the need to get closer as well. He looked around for a way to get onto the rocks, and found a concrete staircase to the shoreline.
Jake walked down the stairs, lessening the distance between himself and the black-haired boy walking towards him. He knew it was extremely weird, but the feeling was uncanny. The string of fate tugged at him ever so harshly, and he simply had to go towards him.
He felt the cold air around him, whipping around and creating a mess of his brown locks of hair. But he didn't stop, he continued forward as the distance between them became smaller and smaller. Jake felt nervous, since the boy's face became clearer as they got closer.
The male stopped, and so did Jake. A distance of about 7 metres was between them, and Jake didn't want to close that distance. The person, although soaking wet, stood before Jake calmly. His expression held a small smile, making Jake feel weird for not being able to smile back.
"So you're my counterpart," the male finally spoke. Jake relaxed immediately - his voice was soothing and soft, gentle as if he was handling a newborn baby with his voice. "I don't know if you can feel it, but...-"
"I can," Jake replied quickly, his cheeks burning slightly as the other widened his eyes. He looked away in embarrassment, earning a soft chuckle from the other. "I'm sorry. I feel a little weird, I don't know how to explain it."
"Don't worry, I'm nervous too," the boy smiled. "You're... you're warm. It's nice to have that warmth so close by. I'm not used to it."
Jake smiled eventually, looking up to meet his eyes. "I've never met someone as cold as you." Saying that suddenly reminded himself of the situation. "Oh my God, you're soaking wet. Uhm, are you... okay? You don't seem bothered by this..."
"Oh, I'm fine - I'm ice," the other smiled gently. "It's just... I'm surprised to meet you. I never thought you'd show up so soon. My warmth."
Jake turned red again and looked away quickly. The air between them felt weird, as if they've known each other for years and years. On the contrary, it had only been minutes since they met. Jake still felt worried about him being soaked, but he was smiling - because Jake was the fire to his ice.
"I-I'm Jake!" he suddenly announced, his cheeks becoming flushed red. "S-Sim Jake."
The male, somehow, offered a warm smile as greeting, holding his hand out. "Park Sunghoon."
And that was how the two boys of fire and ice, two contrasting feelings, emotions and expressions, met and got familiar with their destined chemistry. Jake still felt weird, but Sunghoon's accommodating smile put him at ease almost immediately.
"Y-you need to get changed. Please. You're stressing me out."
