We got into Tyler’s bronze Chevy (this time, I’m sure it’s a Chevy, since he told me), and in a few minutes, we were at the theater.  When we got inside, we looked over at the list of movies showing.  Tyler and I deliberated for a while whether to watch Sherlock Holmes (starring Robert Downey) and Avatar—we decided on the latter.  Tyler lined up for the tickets and 3D glasses while I got the popcorn and sodas.

After that, we went inside the theater and squeezed our way to our seats.  The movie hadn’t started yet, just the trailer previews.  As soon as the movie started, Tyler and I put on our 3D glasses.

The movie was amazing!  The animation was spectacular.  I was squeezing Tyler’s hand the whole time, especially when Jake Sully in Avatar form would ride this pterodactyl-like alien, and the 3D glasses made it seem like we were going to fall off the cliff, then we would woosh up into the sky.

            And, yes, I cried.

It was just so sad when the bad guys burned down their home tree, and when that scientist woman died.  But I wiped my wimpy tears surreptitiously away, hoping Tyler hadn’t noticed.

Halfway through the movie, Tyler had stretched his arm out on my backseat.  It made me grin how old-school that move was, but still, I snuggled up to him and enjoyed the movie.

When the lights came back on, we took off our 3D glasses.

“Cool movie, huh?”  Tyler grinned at me as we exited the theater.

            “Amazing.”  I agreed.

When we made our way outside, I heard someone call out:

            “Natalie?”

I turned my head to where the female voice had come from, and to my surprise, I found Kaycee, one of my best friends at school, with her heavily eyelinered eyes nearly bulging out of their sockets.

“Kaycee!”  I shrieked, and we ran into each others’ arms like total idiots.

“Ohmigosh, where have you been?  Why did you drop out of school?  Why haven’t you been answering any of my texts or returning any of my calls?  Do you know how worried we are about you?  Anne and Valerie have been trying to reach you, too.”  Kaycee’s questions gushed out all at once when she pulled away from me.  Then her eyes widened when she remembered something.  “Ohmigosh, Anne and Val!  They’re in the restroom!  They need to know you’re here!”

Suddenly, I heard twin voices from behind me scream out my name.  Before I knew it, I found myself tackled to the ground by Anne and Val.  We shrieked and jumped around and yelled excited incoherent screams at each other for a good five minutes.

“I missed you guys so much!”  I cried, hugging them again.

“Where the hay have you been, Natalie?”  Valerie asked, flicking her thick slanted bangs out of her face with her thumb and pinky.  It was her signature move.

“Yeah!  Do you know how many times we tried to contact you?”  Anne added, her slanted eyes squinting in accusation even more.  “Like, a bagillion times!  And you never picked up!  What’s going on?”
