Chapter Fourteen
“What took you so long? You said ten minutes. You’ve been in there for over half an hour!” Iggy scolded as I got into the car.
I bit on my lower lip. “I’m really sorry, Iggy.” I was thankful for the dark. At least if I was still flushed from the kiss, he wouldn’t see.
My first kiss.
I’ve read about it in teen fiction novels before and even heard my friends share their experiences with me. But nothing could beat the actual, honest-to-goodness thing. Kissing Tyler was absolutely the best thing I’ve ever experienced in my life.
And by the way, the violins I thought I had earlier turned out to be Mrs. Wesley. I never knew that she actually played the violin until now. Well, she couldn’t have picked a more perfect time to play it.
And now I was Tyler’s girlfriend.
A warmth went through me as I thought of the word.
Girlfriend.
I’ve never been in a relationship before, so Tyler’s definitely my first. I wonder what it’s going to be like. I just hope that, despite the romance, underneath it all, friendship would always come first to us.
“Natalie, are you even listening to me?” Iggy snapped and I jerked in my seat, startled.
“Sorry.” I mumbled, embarrassed. “What were you saying?”
“I said we’re home.” He said flatly.
I looked out the window, stunned to find ourselves parked in front of the orange house.
“Sorry.” I said again. “My mind took a side trip.”
“I’ll say.” He paused. “Um, what did you want with Tyler, anyway?”
“I went to apologize to him.”
“Apologize?” He looked surprised, like that was the last thing he had been expecting. “For what?”
“It’s a long story.” I know it isn’t really a long story, but I wasn’t really comfortable with the thought of explaining my jealousy issue with him.
“Okay.” He shrugged indifferently and got out of the car.
We walked into the house in silence.
“I’m going up to do homework. Then I’m turning in early since I’ve got school tomorrow.” He told me as he stood before the stairs.
“Okay. Thanks again for the ride.” I offered him a smile and he returned it.
“No problem, Nat.” He gave my shoulder an absent pat and started up the stairs.
“Good night, Iggy.”
Since I had nothing else to do, I decided to go to the tiny living room to watch TV. Only then did I realize as I sat down on the couch and flipped it on that it had been a long time since I had last watched TV. Using the remote, I scanned disinterestedly through the channels before finally settling on a rerun of an old Fairly Odd Parents episode. Wouldn’t it be just plain awesome if I had fairy grandparents that could grant my every wish? I’d never give them a chance to rest.
