"Oh hey Togami." Makoto waved at me while entering the library. It is lunchbreak right now and like most other lunchbreaks, I am stuck with my nose in the books.
I've read all interesting ones in here already, so now I just bring my own. I still read here, because it's the most quiet place.
"Hello Naegi." I greet the luckster. He goes to a shelf a bit further of where I am, but still in my line of sight. I turn my gaze back towards my book, however my attention seems to be stuck with him instead.
He seems to have found the book he needs. It is one on the top shelf. Even I have trouble getting books from there and this is Makoto we're talking about.
After a few futile jumps, he tries to look for something to stand on. I continue reading my book, as he has left my sight. Still I cant seem to focus. My mind keeps wondering what the boy is up to.
Fortunately I don't need to wonder for long for he quickly returns holding a stool in hand. He looks op at the book with newfound determination. He's still not going to reach, I can tell. However, I am intrigued to see how long that determination of him lasts.
He stands on the stool and low and behold, he still cannot reach. His fingertips barely brush the top shelve let alone the books standing on it. Even when he stands on the tippy toes of his right foot stretching his left arm as high as he can, he does not touch the book. A little experimental jump, still no luck. Though he managed to keep his balance.
Don't push it, Makoto.
He does anyway. Another jump, a little higher this time and unfortunately he manages to touch the book. With the taste of victory in his mind, the brunette tries even higher. Of course he fails again, slips and falls to the ground. In his attempt to keep himself up, he knocks down a couple books with him.
Honestly...
He looks up and catches me staring at him.
"hehe... Sorry." he says while scratching the back of his neck. A little habit of his when he's nervous, I noticed.
I look back at my book to show him that I won't address this matter. Within my range of sight, however, I can still see what he's doing. He picks up the books that have landed on him and places them in a neat pile. Afterwards he stands up and straightens himself. He's not hurt then.
So, what now Makoto? Are you going to give up?
Not yet it would seem. He's staring at the book he needs as if it is his sworn enemy. Those are the eyes of a warrior who is not planning on retreating yet.
After the little staring contest, the brunette looks around for anything else that might be useful. Then his eyes land on the books he piled up. This will surely end up badly.
I sigh. Alright fine, this has gone on for long enough.
I stand up and make my way over to Makoto who's busy placing the book stack on the stool. He didn't notice me moving until I was taking the pile and placing it on the ground again.
I can't guess at what he is thinking as I'm not paying any attention to him. That is probably the reason why he's not saying anything either. I step on the stool and take the book the smaller boy is so fixated on.
Carefully stepping back on the ground, I hand over the book.
"There."
His hands hesitantly take it. The blush on his face gives away the embarrassment he's feeling for needing the help.
"Thanks." He smiles nonetheless.
"You could have just asked me from the beginning you know."
"I didn't really want to bother you, but I guess I did anyway." Again that typical neckscratch. I take a look at the book in his hand.
"You read mystery novels?"
"Just recently. I've been trying to find a new hobby. With all these ultimates I kind of got inspired."
"That one's alright, but it gets quite boring partway through" I tell him, feeling a sense of joy in sharing one of my passions. I pick out another book of the same genre from the rack and show it to him.
"Try this one by Natsuo Kirino. A bit more challenging, but it should keep your attention."
"Aw thank you. I'll defenitly give it a try." He grabs the book a little bit too enthusiastically and gives it a quick look over.
"Come back to me, when you do."
Perhaps, if he really likes this book, I won't be reading alone next time.___________________________________
Sorry, this one was a bit... short. Hahahahahaha
Okey sorry.
Anyways, this book follows the events of another one I've written called "Close kept secrets". It will be mentioned sometimes, but don't worry if you haven't read it, you'll still be able to understand the story.
Thank you so much for reading!
