It turned out that it wasn't a trap.
I stopped fretting over it as soon as I had seen a familiar silhouette sitting at an outside table. It was undoubtedly female with the curves and long bouncy curls down the back, so it answered my question of who it was.
Noelle.
I slid in the seat opposite her, attempting to look casual. She didn't turn to give me a warm welcome, but it seemed she didn't even register I was there. Her body was angled away from me, her face wistful and her finger sliding along the rim of the glass.
She closed her eyes her hand sliding down to cup the whole glass in her palm then took a large gulp, "I knew you'd come."
She let out a harsh laugh, not even bothering to put on a mask. "You're just like her."
"Her?"
"Kieran, that's her name. A guys name, yes, but she even had bigger balls than any other man," she snorted and shook her head as if it was the stupidest idea in the world.
"Why are you telling me this?"
She ignored me. "I was fourteen, and walking down the street with our little group," Noelle started. I didn't bother to change the subject because it didn't look like she wanted too. "We weren't large, and Amelia wasn't as sadistic back then so she let me come along, seeing as I was a 'good girl'. Anyway, along we went as one happy little fucking family and suddenly an arm grabbed me from behind.
"I screamed, of course. you know, rapists, pedophiles and molesters seemed to be growing like rats these days and when I was grabbed I obviously reacted. All of their eyes went to me before eying Kieran like a wild beast.
"'Run' she had whispered. And I did."
A cold laugh. "Only to end up being shot in the back of my calf."
Noelle twisted in her seat, showing the back of her leg. A bullet scar was dented into her skin and the sight making me gulp.
"Of course, it was silent because otherwise, a bullet going off would cause attention. But that didn't stop me from belting out a scream.
"That didn't matter, because Amelia had made it look like I was having a tantrum. She had managed to hold a patch to my wound while pulling me into her arms and walking to the van. I don't know how but Kieran was hustled into the van as well. She was restrained by five of the elder girls.
"She was sent to the Rogues. And in the five days I was apart from her, I was punished for trying to run. I never regretted it, in fact I would have done the same thing if given the chance. But through those days, in the edges of my mind I had wondered why she'd help me. But I found that out at.. His.. birthday.
"So I searched for her that night, finding her in tge basement alone, strapped to a metal table naked. Her black hair was cut completely short, blood all over her like a velvet dress. She was breathing heavily, her eyes half-lidded, and when she saw me she breathed out a laugh."
A tear slid down Noelle's cheek, evoking one out of me as well.
"'Im glad you're alive' she had croaked, her voice raspy. 'come here'. I walked over to her, trying to keep away my fear. Being seen with her would cause instant death. Rumors had passed about the Rogues and I didn't doubt what'd happen if they caught me.
"When I was a meter away from the table, her eyes pierced me like broken glass. Unshed tears glistened in her eyes as she told me, 'no matter what you do, you have to take any opportunity a stranger takes to get you out of here. Even if it costs them their life. Be selfish, and help yourself. Because the pain you go through if you leave is worth having a chance at freedom.'"
She sucked in a deep breath and wiped the tear away. "We talked then, she told me about her life, and I became a lot more calmer. She wasn't as dangerous as I had thought, seeing as she was there to help me. Apparently she had heard about the girls being taken and had quickly tried to help. In return I tried to undo the buckles but she had stopped me.
"'Indestructible. Besides, I wouldn't want you to get rope burn.' It must have been some sick joke because from what I knew Were's weren't really affected by rope burns. So I had touched her boundings and saw it was silver and her skin underneath was blistered and bloody.
"I had left in an attempt to find a weapon. She had told me not to leave until she told me but I didn't listen, I just wanted to help her like she had helped me. I left and but was too late. We were leaving.
"And on that night, I promised i would come back to help her, but I couldn't."
A sob hiccuped Noelle and suddenly tears were pouring out of her. "I didn't help her, Lily. And now she's dead. She was hanged because of me. If I had been a bitch from the start then they wouldn't have brought me, then I would be-"
"Dead," I answered. "And that would do no good. She would have helped someone else."
"But if I had gone- if I had gone back to her-"
"Then you'd be dead again. You shouldn't of taken that risk," I took a deep breath before staring at her tear filled eyes. "What happened next?"
"She was hanged, and I got a front row to see it because I had run. I watched her take her last few breaths before life faded from her eyes. The sick bastard next to me whispered, 'you're lucky it's not you as well'."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"That doesn't matter," She whispered.
