Ms. Stevens' POV

Deena and I are at a restaurant, eating outdoors.  "It seems like you two have gotten a bit closer."  She says.

"I mean, I'd say so.  I used to think that she hates me, but I don't think so anymore."  I eat some of my salad.

"You thought she hated you?  Why?"  She says, a brow raised.  "Well, she kind of had an attitude with me a lot.  Well, at least that's how it came off on my end."

"Aurora, I gotta tell you, my sister hates awkward situations, and if she feels like she's in one, she's gonna tell you.  She's just a really straight up person in general.  Don't take it personally."

"But I'm glad she warmed up to me yesterday.  Do you think......do you think she'll stay like that?"

"Mmmmmm.  It's hard to tell, but why?"  "I just.....I don't want the uncomfortableness, for her or for me, y'know?"

She nods her head.  "Yeah, I get it.  Only time will tell, though.  I have absolutely no control over my sister's behavior, so I can't tell you."

"Should I talk to her about it?"  "I'm not really sure, but if you do, just know that she's not afraid to answer what she feels, so beware of that if you ask her something that answering it will hurt your feelings."

"Got it."

.....

"Hey, uh, Shiranda, can you stay back for a moment?"  The last of the students have walked out of the door, leaving us alone.

"What is it, Ms. Stevens?"  "You can call me Aurora when we're alone."  She gives me a confused brow-raise.  "Uh, ok?"

"I just wanted to talk to you about our interactions."  "As in?"  "I just wanted to know if things will be less awkward from now on, since we had such a great time two days ago."

"You.....had a good time?"  "Yeah.  Yeah, I did."  "Well, as far as your question goes, I don't really know.  I can't promise you anything.  When you look at it from an outside perspective, it's still pretty weird to have my teacher around when we're not in school.  Knowing me, honestly, you shouldn't get your hopes up.  Is there anything else?"

"Um, no.  You can go."

Without another word, she exits the room.

Well, that definitely wasn't what I wanted to hear.  Maybe I shouldn't have brought it up.

One thing is for sure, though: Deena was right about her sister.  She tells you like it is, and never something you want to hear just because you want to.

Shiranda's POV

Ms. Stevens told me she had a good time at the fair......

Was it because of me?

It could've just been all the rides, the games, and the funnel cake.  I don't see why I would've made it so special.

And what's up with her saying I could call her by her first name?  We're not really friends, and I am her student at the end of the day, so I don't see why I would be so informal with her.

To be honest, I'm surprised she called me back to talk about......"it".  I thought she was just gonna talk about my grade.

Truthfully, talking about it made me feel even more awkward.  I don't like talking about things like that, and she put me on the spot.  I don't really think she can read me well.

I don't think this whole "friends with your sister" thing is gonna work out.
