Lunar blinked slowly as bright artificial light assaulted her eyes; she knew almost immediately where she was, back at the School in the medical wing. She heard voices talking and turned to see Storm and surprisingly Logan talking by the door, when they saw she was awake though they stopped and came over.
“How do you feel?” Storm asked.
“Like someone threw a bunch of stones at me, I’m just great.” Lunar replied sarcastically.
“You almost died you know.” Logan retorted sharply, sounding more like his old self. “If it were for Storm you would be dead.”
“What happened, where are Scott and Xavier?”
“Talking about what happened at Alkali.” Storm informed her. “You were out for two days, we’ve been taking turns between checking on you and checking on Jean.”
“Jean is here?” Lunar looked at the two of them like they’d lost their minds. “She tried to kill me!”
“Professor Xavier thinks he can help her and make everything normal, relatively normal, like before.”
Lunar stood up and clenched her teeth in pain as she moved. “Logan, this is your fault.”
“My fault?” Logan growled. “You’re the one who started fighting her! Jean would have calmed down if you hadn’t made her angry.”
She glared at him and felt her animal form coming out before Storm put a hand on her shoulder. “We can’t fight among ourselves, not at a time like this, come on I’ll take you to X and he can fill you in.”
“Fine.” Lunar glared at Logan. “So long as he stays here and far away from me.”
Storm glanced between the two as she tried to piece together why they hated each other. “Follow me then.”
Lunar got up stiffly and followed Storm, but not before she noticed Jean’s unconscious form across the room with Logan beside it, as they walked through the quiet hallways. Dawn light spilled through the windows as they made their way to the upper level where the students went to their classes, Storm didn’t even have to knock on the door of Professor Xavier’s office before the door slid open to reveal the Professor and Scott, who’s back was to them.
“Lunar’s here Professor.” Storm spoke up.
Xavier smiled as Lunar leaned against a wall and tried to move as little as possible. “I hope you’re feeling better. You’ve missed a lot in two days.”
“I bet.” Lunar replied sarcastically. “I mean Logan actually had his annoying personality back.”
Scott smirked slightly as he glanced at her and Lunar noticed part of his neck had been wrapped in gauze that seemed to go down his side. “Unfortunately.”
“What happened?”
“I’ll let the Professor tell you the important stuff first.”
Xavier nodded to him and turned back to Lunar. “The humans have developed a cure for mutations. At the moment they’re only using it on mutants who want to be normal but Hank is concerned that they might try to use it as a weapon.”
“What about you guys? What you think?” Lunar asked.
Storm cleared her throat. “At this time I believe Hank can keep the government convinced that the cure shouldn’t be used as a weapon but we are concerned what Magneto will do when he finds out about this.”
“Well why not go find and stop him before he does anything bad?”
“Because with his Brotherhood of mutants he could escape too easily.” Scott explained. “Plus if we start a war with him the humans will be dragged in and they’ll use the cure on us.”
“There is another thing you should be aware of.” Xavier interrupted. “The cure has come from a mutant… we won’t do anything yet, but I’m afraid Magneto will try to eventually when he finds out about the cure’s source.”
“Well then I don’t know why you consider it so important if we aren’t going to do anything about it yet.” Lunar replied as she started to leave. “By the way Charles, watch Logan, he’s trying to kill me and who knows who else.”
She felt him go through her memories. “I’ll do that.”
“I’ll be in my room if any of you need me for training.” Lunar announced as she limped from the room, trying to act like she was in less pain than she really was.
Pain seared through her mind however as she was half way up the stairs and she sank to the ground clutching her head while clenching her teeth to keep herself from screaming. Voices seemed to echo around her, getting closer and then far away, and she could tell almost immediately who was causing it, Jean. Sure enough she ran by a few minutes later looking confused and angry as she passed by, much to Lunar’s surprise, Jean didn’t even glance her way. By the time the pain in her head had faded Jean was gone, Lunar’s vision was still a bit blurry as she stood up and regained her bearings.
Footsteps came up from the lower level and Lunar glared at Logan as he walked over to her. “Where did she go?”
“Far away hopefully.” Lunar backed away from him as she saw his claws poking out slightly. “Jean would kill us all with you talking to her.”
“No she won’t she’ll listen to me.” Logan shoved her into the wall and slowly slid out his claws. “Now where did she go?”
Lunar glared at him. “Honestly Logan, control that temper of yours before I make you. I don’t know where she went but if you have a death wish then by all means I won’t stop you from getting yourself killed.”
“I’ll show you Jean isn’t evil. Then I’ll prove to everyone you are nothing but a disloyal mutant who is only here until it gets too dangerous for you to stay.” Logan threatened before turning to leave. “See how many of your ‘friends’ will still like you then.”
