Mohammed sir is a very good math teacher, no doubt about that. But I am an even greater student. Today I have given him such a problem that all he can do is brush his hand through his head which is almost completely bald. And what am I doing? Silently praying to God that may Aayan come.
"Hey, how are you? You came pretty quickly today," I say as Aayan came in.
"Yeah, I am fine, nice weather," Aayan replies.
"You did not answer my second question."
"Well, there was not much traffic on the road."
"Thank God, you could come early."
Ok. I know guys look good in black. Today Aayan is wearing a black T-shirt with matching black trousers. Trust me, I cannot explain how I feel. The first day I think of him as a Hoor. Today I am thinking him to be dark and dangerous. I think I am falling in love with him all over again.
Of course he sits beside me. Where else will he sit? I have kept the seat beside me blank, so he has to honor it. I just catch that familiar fragrance of him and I feel so cozy. I wonder what perfume he wears. Or is it just his own body fragrance? I just want to nuzzle deep down in his neck.
"Hey Amber, what's up today?" asks Zara as she came in.
"Yeah, I am fine. Sit behind me?" I reply.
"Of course I would. Oh, you have got company."
"And you are wearing black."
"I am so sorry. If I knew, I would not have."
Trust me, jealousy hits me like waves of the ocean. I just want to take off Zara's dress and wear it myself. But suddenly I notice something. Aayan does not even look at Zara even once. And that washes all my jealousies away. No matter what, he chooses me. Over and over again. What more can I want?
He takes out some of his problems but cannot catch sir's attention. And then Saeed enters. Today is a rainy day. But I suppose everyone is in a mood of get-together. Saeed takes the seat directly across and asks Aayan for his phone, which he gracefully takes out and hands to Saeed.
Saeed takes it and calls up someone. I look down at my hand. Forgot to mention, I am wearing henna. The good part is my hands are looking beautiful. The bad part is, colors are staining and I have to firmly hold a tissue paper in my hand, so that it will not stain anything else.
My grandmother tells me something. She says that if the henna applied leaves a dark color, it means that the person who loves me, loves me very much. My henna turns out to be really dark, almost black. Does that mean that Aayan loves me very much? Please let Aayan be my lover and no one else.
Saeed and Zara are both looking at me. I cannot help but contain all my emotions. But my facial features betrays me more than often. As usual, my eyes always find their place on Aayan. Saeed is watching all this and maybe it is reminding him of his time with Zara.
"Why all of a sudden henna on your hands?" asks Saeed.
"Maybe colors are blooming in my heart," I reply.
"Good. And my life seems black and grey."
"At least you noticed my hands, someone else didn't."
"Not everyone has the eyes to see beauty."
That is when Aayan first notices my hands. I display them in the most artistic way possible. He takes one moment to look at them and smiles to himself. What is this? I put so much effort in applying them and he cannot even say that my hands look different, let alone beautiful?
I am quite disappointed but cannot help myself. Suddenly Zara asks me for a calculator. I pass it to her and our eyes meet. She has a playful and naughty smile on her lips. I cannot help but smile to myself too. My mood lifts up and I turn forward solving all my QPs with a joyful flare.
Aayan is doing some past papers too. I take a sneak peek and realize that I have already solved them. He looks a bit too self-absorbed today. Is something wrong with him? I am afraid to ask him as he may get offended. Instead I turn around to talk with Zara and help her with her problem.
She has several problems in Sets, which are actually quite easy. Is she doing this on purpose to hold my attention to her or is she genuinely unable to do them? Either way, I finish them quickly and look forward in time to see Mohammed sir chastising Aayan for not being able to do an easy math.
"Even Amber would not be able to do it," Aayan replies.
"No. I think I can," I say.
"This math is way too hard."
"You should not underestimate people in that way."
"No. I am not underestimating you."
Class will be over at 3pm. But I have to go exactly at 2pm. I have a personal problem which I have shared earlier with sir in the presence of Aayan. I warn Zara not to sit beside Aayan while I am gone. She reassures me that she will not. I get out from the doors.
I come down the stairs. I feel happy that Aayancomes and out with me but something seems amiss. He acts a little bitaggressive today. Is something preoccupying him or is he angry with me for someother reason? I look back at 3G and ask God to give Aayan peace of mind.
