Monday morning rolled around slowly for Mike after spending the weekend at odds with his parents, mainly his dad, about his grades. The school was open, but classes didn't start for another hour, so the halls were practically empty except for a few eager students. Mike found himself trailing behind his father after they had spoken to Principal Figgins about the possibility of Mike "taking drugs at school".

Obviously, the idea was ridiculous but so was his dad's behaviour, Mike thought as they stopped at his locker, his dad turning expectantly to him.

"Dad, I promise I'll get my grades up..." Mike said determined if not a little shy after a moment of his dad just staring at him.

"You better Michael because otherwise, you can forget those foolish dance classes that we pay for" Mr Chang told him, his voice firm and expression unchanging.

Mike nodded; he knew he was in trouble if he was called by his full name.

"I'll see you at home" was the last thing his dad said before turning and leaving the school, passing Tina on the way out and ignoring her kind smile.

When this happened Tina instantly felt a wave of nerves wash over her and when she saw the look on her boyfriend's face as he took books out of his locker, the feeling only grew so, she walked over slowly, a small smile on her features.

"Mike? Is everything okay?" she asked, tilting her head slightly to try and catch his eyes but he didn't look, he merely nodded, "Then.. why was your dad here?" she asked hesitantly, not wanting to upset him more.

"I got an A- in geometry..." Mike sighed, looking to Tina, unable to ignore or lie to the girl he loved.

"You got an Asian F?" she asked, eyes wide as a hand hovered over her mouth in shock.

"Yeah, and now, if I don't get my grades up, my dad's threatening to stop me dancing..." he replied with a heavy sigh as he slammed his locker and started walking, Tina instantly grabbing his hand and walking with him.

"But.. he can't do that!" she said determinedly, "You love dancing" she continued, looking up at Mike.

"I know but, he pays for my lessons so unless I get like three jobs to pay the tuition for every class-" he cut himself off and stopped walking, not wanting to get worked up.

"Mike, you can let your dad control you forever, your almost eighteen..." Tina admitted, not sure if she should really have said what she did.

Her suspicions proved correct as Mike pulled his hand away from her and looked at her with a hurt expression.

"He's my dad Tina! I can't just disobey him!" he replied, defensive, "I can't tear my family apart for a stupid dream..." he finished before walking away in a huff.

Tina thought for a moment, wanting her words to be just right.

"Then give up on it!" she yelled down the hall, causing the few students who were around to look, and her boyfriend to slow his pace until he stood still.

"Give up on your biggest dream and the thing you love most and go be a doctor to make them proud" she stated, walking forward, her heels echoing through the hallway.

"Give up and be miserable for the rest of your life and then grow up to be just like your dad and teach your children to give up to" she finished, stopping in front of Mike who looked shocked but at the same time, seemed to be thinking about what she said.

"You have a gift Mike Chang, and it's not your knowledge of medicine" she admitted, "It's your gift to dance and trust me when I say, that's something you need to share with everyone" she smiled sadly as her eyes becoming glossy, "You shared it with me and..." she began, taking a deep breath as she took his hand, grateful that he didn't pull away, "And it's what made me fall madly in love with you..." she admitted, squeezing his hand as small tears fell.

There was silence but only for a moment before Mike finally spoke, "God, I love you so much..." he breathed as he squeezed her hand reassuringly.

Tina let out a watery chuckle as she saw Mike smile before he tugged her into his warm embrace, holding her tightly against him and peppering her head with light kisses.
