Chapter Five: The Beginning Of Hell

[Visinia City, Upsilon High]
[February 12, 07:07]

“What was that?”

From the gates of Upsilon High came the resonant sound of a despairing yell. Its tone was so heart wrecking it left the students in the court yard frozen like scarecrows. The despair was quite clear, signalling that this person was in a troubling predicament. Skyler, Wyvern and Parthenos halted their little sparring session and tilted their heads to the direction the feminine voice came from. Beads of seat slowly trickled down all of their faces. The voice, to Skyler, was quite reminiscent. For a second, his heart abnormally pulsates. "Miss Araele!" Skyler panicked and shoved Parthenos to the ground with his foot for good. Immediately, he bolted towards the school gates like a freight train cutting through wind. "Sky, wait up!" Wyvern followed behind him and left Parthenos on the ground in search for dust. The learners who encircled the fight grew suspicious of the voice too. They couldn't help but feel terrified at hearing such a scream so early in the morning and as such, each of them hit the road and bursted to class. Pandemonium. Screams. "Horror movie, verse one: thou shall not follow the scream!" Wyvern sought to ridicule the moment, but Skyler was far from humorous. He ran, taking short breaths with Wyvern running alongside him. He said nothing, a look of seriousness was affixed on his visage. Worry?

They arrived. Their eyes fed them a pool of unfathomable information which they failed to process in that very moment. Miss Areale was on the floor, blood running down her head as she tried to crawl away from a monster behind her? Her left leg seemed injured, mangled up by bite marks accompanied by her own blood. "Miss Araele!" Skyler yelled so loud his voice almost broke out of his throat. Wyvern was dumbfounded by the scene. Skyler was not. He immediately ran forward with a burst of speed. As he ran, he took notice of the monster that nonchalantly walked towards his teacher with it's left leg dragging along the paved floors. He came to an immediate conclusion, zombie. Once he reached his teacher, he grabbed her right hand and pulled her up. Wyvern, who followed behind charged forward too with a fist already formed in his right hand. Upon reaching, he simply sent his right knuckles crashing into the zombie's already destroyed facial features and sent it flying back to hit the paved floors. "Miss Araele! Are you alright?" She said nothing. Once Skyler picked his History teacher up, he dragged her arm over his neck and walked her to the office building. Luckily, there was a medical room ready to receive harmed teachers and students. Its job however was a different one this time. Receiving a teacher who was injured by a zombie was its first time. It got nervous.

"Stay with me, Miss Araele!" Skyler put his teacher on one of two beds within the room and immediately burped his words. Miss Araele's vision was hazy. The world was a complete blur. Above her left eye brow laid an injury she received after hitting her head on the ground. She was scathed. "Look at you… Ordering me around…" Skyler breathed a sigh of relief. She was still alive and she could clearly recognize her favourite student even with the blur masking her vision. "I'll be right back." Skyler uttered and ran out of the medical room. The hallways grew bigger in Skyler's eyes. He couldn't even see properly, the situation was dire. "Gotta find the nurse quickly!" It was 07h20, obviously, the nurse had arrived at school by the time. Or had she?

Wyvern on the otherhand was stupefied. Shock and astonishment filled his black boots. A chill ran down his spine as he watched the zombie in front of his boots mingle around the floors. "So, a zombie apocalypse? Man." He uttered in disbelief. He stood for a few heart beats and immediately formed two fists out of his hands. He got on his knees and absolutely beat the dead out of the zombie on the ground. His fists hit its fragile cranium with heavy blows until its skull finally popped. Fluids of brown escaped its head and a smell of rotten who-knows-what scratched the red haired boy's nose. "Oof, fucking–" Just as he was about to finish his statement, Wyvern heard howls and groans approaching from the gates. The sounds forced him to curtail his cussing yell. The very same smell he received from the popped skull in front of him grew stronger with the howls. His head decided to tilt up, but his neck told him not to. It was so stiff he couldn't even think straight. Eventually, he turned up and noticed a wave of dead people gradually making their way to the closed school gates. Ragged clothes were worn by these destroyed humans. Their bodies, rotten beyond words as they closed the distance between themselves and the gates. Men, women, children, all were dead, but alive. The supernatural occurances they thought were a prank now become an actual thing. "Oh, my, God."

"Where's the goddamn nurse?!" Skyler raced through the office hallways in search for the school nurse. He had left Miss Araele with her injuries as he went and looked for the school nurse. Surprisingly, no one was around. Even the principal who was never late. "Fuck!" His resonant voice echoed throughout the hallways. Quickly, he rushed back to the medical room to go and attend to his History teacher. After his arrival, he grabbed his white T-shirt and ripped it to long shreds. His mildly lumpy upper body got exposed to a cold breeze breathed by an air conditioner above. Skyler then grabbed Miss Araele's damaged leg and tightly fastened his shirt below her knee so the zombie's infectious saliva couldn't course through. "Don't worry, Ma'am, I gatchu." Tears collected around his eyes as he watched his favourite teacher moan to the painful injuries. Skyler dug into a large container near the bed and grabbed a first aid kit after his utterance reached Miss Araele. He dug through its furniture until he found what he was looking for. A disinfectant. He spilled some of the orange fluids on a blob of cotton and let it run over his teachers head injury. She knitted her teeth to the burning sensation and grabbed onto Skyler's black pants. Particularly around his left pocket. After cleaning her injury, Skyler grabbed a roll of bandage and wrapped it around her head with a blanket of cotton already above her injury, beneath the cloth.

Skyler raced through the first aid kit a few more times and retrieved a syringe. Tied around it was a unique bottle with a "use with care" label attached onto it. He grabbed all and tucked them into his back pocket. "Are you okay to walk?" His inquiry was filled with hope and a little cloud of sadness. "Yes, I think." Miss Araele rose from the bed and sat. She softly grabbed her head and appreciated Skyler's help with a smile. "Now, please tell me what happened." Skyler knelt down on his left knee and asked his teacher for information. Without hesitation, she began. "I was walking into the school, Joe was about to open the gate for me and I waited for him. After he clicked the remote, I walked in and after a few seconds, I got hit on the head and I immediately fell to the floors. The hit was not all too painful but I felt the paved floors after my head hit with a thud." She paused, seeking more information from her hazy mind. "From there, I felt something holding onto my leg. It felt like something was biting into my skin but I couldn't tell what was." She uttered once more, holding onto her head. She felt a slight migraine. "What hit me anyway? I know it wasn't a dog." Her inquiry indicated that she was clueless. She did not know what exactly assaulted her, yet.

“What hit you was a zombie. If a hadn't rescued you in time, you would have been turned into one.”

Miss Araele's eyes widened in surprise. Her ears fed her a fiest of words far from believable. Zombies? In the real world? In what time? "Are you messing with me, Pieter?" Miss Araele inquiried. Her question too was sweating just as much as she was. "No. This is me being dead serious." A deadpan expression on his face said it all. Skyler was not joking around. "Quick, we need to get you to a hospital. The school nurse isn't around so I don't think I'll be able to heal you." Skyler spoke as he tucked his hands beneath his teacher to lift her from the bed. Miss Araele had her car already parked in the school's parking lot. Skyler put his muscular body to the test as he lifted his teacher from the bed. Her curvaceous build was not doing Skyler a favour, she was quite heavy. Right after he lifted her, Skyler turned to the door. Just as his eyes were to meet with the exit, a hit to the face knocked him off balance and he dropped to the ground. Miss Araele landed on top of him with a thud which put him in an uncomfortable yet comfortable position. "What the heck was that?–" Just as he finished his question, he raised his head and an undead being groaned as it watched the both of them on the ground. Shocked, Miss Araele screamed.

“Shit.”
