Dead Souls Alive

Chapter Three: Strategy

[Visinia City, Secondary School]
[February 11, 10h15]

Tiles made up the floors, white, clean and spotless. Walls, painted onto with a sky blue colour. Grey lockers stood just afront these walls in a hallway. Within this hallway walked the trio of Kieran, Skyler and Wyvern, all aiming for their respective classrooms. The hallway came to a split. One road went to the left and the other, right. All three lads were wrapped in their school uniforms. They were neat. "This is where our road forks. When break hits, we all meet by the roof top, got it?" Skyler said with his black back pack hanging down his back. "Yeah." Both Wyvern and Kieran said as they took the road sinking to the left and Skyler, the right. "Oh and don't go talking about this with anyone. It remains between the three of us!" Rushing, Skyler tilted his head back and gave his friends a yell. "Got it!" Said the younger of the two rushing in the opposite direction. Wyvern stayed quiet. He knew he wasn't going to mention any of it to anyone. Both of their roads bore forks of their own. Wyvern and Kieran took a left while Skyler took a left too this time.

Arriving at his classroom's door, Skyler took a few seconds to retrieve his breath. He looked up and there rested a sign, "G12 C." He was in for the final push. His final year in school. But then with these paranormal activities recently popping up, he couldn't get enough sleep. Well at least since that one event occurred. This was his first time late. And it wasn't assured that it was going to be his last. Finally, his lungs reached a stable pace. Nonchalantly, he struck the door with a knock until the teacher inside signalled to him, "Enter." He opened the door and walked in. A sudden rush of guilt struck the boy. A span of eyes bolted towards him like a freight train hitting through a wall. Eyes, staring holes all over his six foot stance. He couldn't hold the feeling and immediately, turned back. His heart paced up, his stomach growled, he felt nauseous. Eyes, eyes, and a lot of eyes. "Pieter?" His teacher inquired as she walked out the door to attend to her student. The class hummed in suspicion. "Are you alright? Why are you so late?" She questioned once more. "Yeah I'm alright. I just set my alarm clock incorrectly. It won't happen again." His hands grappled onto his knees as he spoke. His breathing was not normal. "Do you need to go see the nurse?" She asked once more. "No, I'm fine now. Thanks, Miss Araele." Standing up to complete his stance, he grabbed onto his back pack's laces and entered the classroom. This time, he took no heed to the eyes cussing at him for interrupting their session. Simply, he walked towards his desk. Far left, 4th in the row. He pulled out his chair and tucked himself in. Behind him sat a boy he wasn't all too familiar with. In front of him was a girl. On his right, another girl and to his left was a wall. Miss Araele made her way back into the class after her student and continued with her teaching.

About half an hour raced by. To Skyler, it felt like hours. He couldn't concentrate, he was half asleep. His teacher's voice tapped his ears like that one mosquito during a long night. "Haibo, Skyler, wake up." His right ear ringed. It was Layla. Her pink eyes could clearly see through his fake concentration towards the black inked white board. "Yeah, I'm sorry." He replied until he raised his hand. The teacher turned around in attempt to receiving feedback from her class until her eyes met a raised hand. "Yes?" She questioned. "I need to splash my face with water please." Immediately, she pointed her marker at her door. This gave Skyler the go ahead. However, just before he could embrace the opportunity, the bell struck the whole school. The period had finally come to an end. The classroom hummed once more. Indistinct chatter filled it up. That however did not stop Skyler. He stood and bolted towards the door. "Come see me after school." Miss Araele tapped his left ear the moment he passed by her position. Her silky voice put the kid in a short world of dreams. Skyler flinched and delivered a frail nod. He left the room and finally made his way into the boys room. Running water tapped against the white sink in the bathroom. Mirrors held onto the walls in front of Skyler's face as he washed off his exhaustion. He clearly saw the bags beneath his eyes. Just a single night without sleep had enough dirt to blemish his face. "I can't even think straight. We really do need a strategy." His mental space spoke with him. He sealed the tap off and took a few seconds to regain his strength. In time, he left the bathroom.
