"Jeongin, how about we go out today?" Chan suggested.
He had been visiting Jeongin for a month ever since he had to endure doing horrible aegyo for the purpose of getting Jeongin through his math homework.
It usually went the same.
Jeongin would be laying or sitting up in bed while enthusiastically talking to a quiet, yet internally happy, Chan, who sat at his bedside for a few hours before he either needed to go to work or a nurse, usually Felix, came in and said that visiting hours were over.
The boys grew a strong bond as their contrasting personalities seemed to compliment each other.
Chan realized that he wanted to protect this boy at all costs and Jeongin realized that Chan was what he was missing all this time.
"Sure, hyung!" Jeongin responded in excitement.
It had been a while since he was allowed to go outside due to his heavy condition, but he had recently been cleared to leave his room every once in a while.
He was only allowed to travel within the perimeters of the hospital, but Jeongin's positivity and sunshine-like personality could never be deprecated.
"Let's try going to the courtyard today instead of to the cafeteria for banana milk this time," Chan joked, reminding Jeongin of their last and only excursion when Jeongin had to stop at the cafeteria and refused to leave unless Chan bought him banana milk.
"Fine," Jeongin huffed playfully, but stood up taking his rolling monitor stand with him as he and Chan slowly made it down the hallway to the elevator.
Chan usually walked in long strides at a fast pace, but he made sure to walk slowly when with Jeongin as Jeongin was weaker and wasn't used to walking much.
Being confined to a stiff bed will do that to you.
When the elevator door mechanically opened, allowing Chan and Jeongin to exit onto the main floor, Chan guided Jeongin carefully to the entrance to the hospital courtyard, treating him as he would break at the slightest push.
The courtyard wasn't anything special.
It was a square shaped walking path with ferns, bushes, and trees surrounding it and a grassy lawn with a small pond in the middle.
There were rickety wooden benches set up every 10 ft or so along the path for patients if they felt weary or needed a small rest.
Jeongin's favorite part of the courtyard was the squirrels that inhabited the trees, scurrying up and down them or across the lawn.
He thought they were curious, yet adorable animals.
"Oh look!" Jeongin squealed excitedly, pointing to a particularly overweight squirrel that he favored. "Wubs is here!"
"Wubs?" Chan asked in confusion, his attention now directed at the comical squirrel as well.
"Yeah! That's his name," Jeongin announced proudly.
He dragged his monitor stand along with him as he went to stand as close as he could to the squirrel while still remaining on the paved path.
His eyes crinkled at the corners, leaving only his pupils to be seen.
"You named him?" Chan commented in amusement. "You don't even come out here often."
"Of course! And no I don't, but Felix checks in on him for me," Jeongin stuck out his tongue.
