Chap 23

*the Devil's POV.*

It had been a week and a half on earth since shadow had left, I knew it had barely been a day for her at this point but I still wasn't happy to have been left alone for so long. I didn't even have the luxury of being bored now. I was just lonesome and worried.
Lord what had she done to me? I was a wreck, drunk most nights and a flustered mess most days, despite Dice's best efforts to cheer me up too.
I knew this was what was best for her, that she said she would come back, but part of me was beginning to think my brothers were gonna keep her there to themselves. I wasn't stupid. I saw the way Gabrielle looked at her and I knew she didn't trust him but...
Getting a whole soul made? That might change her. It may change her outlook, her way of seeing the world around her. What if, even when she came back she didn't want me anymore? What then? I'd be alone again and I'd never find someone like her again...
I stand from my chair and move to my inactive portal and place my hand on it, wishing she would step through and into my arms.
As if on cue the portal opened and she came flying at me, in my shock of seeing her do so I daughter her and the impact knocked us both back.
She panted against my chest, golden blood and red blood dripping off her and staining the flowing white robe she wore. Her hair was wild and her eyes were full of fear but she looked up at me and relief filled them on its place.
"Shadow? What the fuck? You're bleeding! What happened?" I ask, panic filling me as I sit up with her in my lap, grabbing her shoulders.
She takes a deep breath, clearly trying to catch her breath and she shakes her head, unable to speak as through the portal stepped my brothers, one after another, all of them angry looking and Gabrielle up front so angry his eyes were red as golden blood dropped down his robes and he held his chest where it seemed to be bleeding from.
"Give her to us Lucifer. She must answer for her sins."
"Sins!? That's my department! What is even going on!?" I yell, my fur raising up on the back of my neck and t hats when I notice, my brothers halo is gone and I feel shadow pull herself up on my shirt to reach the top of my head and she placed something above my horns and all my brothers eyes went wide and gasps filled the room.
I turn to look down at Shadow who is smiling as I feel glittering gold flecks falling on my face as the halo she placed there turns to golden dust and I feel a surge of pain and I yelp at the same time as Gabrielle who falls to his knees.
I look over and see my set of wings disappearing from his back and I feel something heavy growing from mine.
With blood tears rolling over my cheeks I look sneakily over my shoulder and see my once golden wings are now black with gold tipped feather, once again on my back and I let out a huff of air in shock. "My...my wings... I have my wings back..."
"No! No you can't do that! You can't have your wings if you don't love someone!" Gabrielle roared as the rest of our brothers knelt to help him to his feet.
"But I do.... I love..." I pause and look down at the girl in my lap. "I love sha-..." she places a hand over my mouth.
"No. I don't want you to say that name... it's not my real name." She says breathlessly. "My name, the name I have kept hidden my whole life... Elena. My name is Elena Star Dengo." She said as tears rolled down her face and I smiled down at her, cupping my hand to the side of her face.
"I love Elena. She is my love and I will love her for all of time." I professed and she moved to hug herself close to me and I kissed the top of her head.
"I love you too Lucifer. I'll love you for as long as my soul exists." She whispers.
I look to my brothers and move to stand, smirking at them. "You hear that you bastards?I love her and she loves me and now that I have my wings.... I'd get the fuck out of my realm if I were you." I warn and they all flinch as my eyes glow a wild fire red and they all begin to back out except for Gabrielle.
"This isn't over Shadow. I'll get you for what you've done. You have to die one day." He said, glaring at Elena before stepping back through the portal and it closed behind him.
I looked down at Elena and she looked up at me. I took her face in my hands and pulled her to me and I kissed her lips passionately, so happy to have her back in my arms once again.
"I missed you so much my love." I whisper as she moves to cuddle close to me and I move my face into her curls, taking in her lavender scent.
"I missed you too. Heaven was hell without you there."
I chuckle against her hair and she chuckles into the crook of my neck.
