*Shadow's POV*
King Dice closes the large ornate door behind us and smiles down at me. He is about three or four inches shorter than The Devil without the horns and he isn't bad looking. He's a well dressed man with a white and lavender die for a head and a pencil mustache just above his lip. His cologne smells expensive and he appears to even be wearing some cosmetics. It was nice to see a man take such care with his looks.
"Follow me miss, if you don't mind." He said turning to walk down the hallway and I quickly follow beside him in silence for a while which seems to make the man uncomfortable because he tries to strike up a conversation.
"So tell me about yourself Miss Shadow. As your manager I'd like to know a bit about you." He said with a wink to me.
I smile a bit and turn my eyes forward while I speak, "there's not much to tell. I've been working in a brothel for most of my life and been a hoe for my entire adult life." I say with a shrug.
"There's nothing wrong with sex work ya know. It doesn't make you a," he lifted his hands and did air quotes when he spoke the word, "hoe, as you put it. A job is a job, whatever it may be."
"Oh I didn't mind it. I agree. A job is a job. I just found it taxing like any other job... plus the fact I couldn't exactly quit made it a little more... undesirable."
"Yes I... I heard about the indentured servitude... damn shame that. I do hope you find your new job here less taxing. If anything makes you uncomfortable you let me or the boss know and it'll be handled swiftly, I can promise you that.." he says, placing a gentle assuring hand on my shoulder.
"Thank you Mr. King Dice. I appreciate that." I say, giving him a smile as we step into an elevator.
He nods and hits a button for the 13th floor, "the 13th floor is all the employee rooms, mine included so if you ever need anyone on their day off or after hours the doors are all labeled. Yours isn't yet but it will be tomorrow."
I nod, amused that the 13th floor was employee residence. Seemed unlucky but it made sense with it being The Devil's Casino. "Good to know."
We step off the elevator and start making our way down the hall, past many labeled doors until we come to a blank one. "Here we are. Your new home." Dice says as he hands me a key with a handle in the shape of the ace of hearts. "All our keys are card themed." He said when he noticed me inspecting the key curiously.
I smiled. "Cute." I say with a small chuckle as dice opens the door and gestures for me to enter first, which I'm happy to do.
He flips on the lights and I smile at the room. There is a large window that spans from one end of the room to the other with a beautiful view of all of the Inkwell Isles. There's a comfortable looking little seating area and a small kitchen with a round table and a large bed with at least 6 pillows, all plush and silky. The room looked and smelled clean and I could see a few of my things placed about, like my perfumes on my dresser along with my jelwery box and a couple books on the coffee table I had brought.
My smile fades when I step closer to the bed though. I see Dice has set my parents picture up on my nightstand and I move to it and lay it face down quickly.
"Thank you Mr. King Dice. The room is beautiful. I'm sure I'll be very comfortable here."
He had been smiling until I moved the picture down and his smile faltered. "Good. I'm glad to hear it. If there's anything you need you just make a list, as detailed of one as you can, and I'll have what you need brought to you ASAP." He explained.
I nod, "Thank you. I'll keep that in mind but I think I'll manage just fine."
He nods, understanding that I may not want to ask to much of those around me I suppose. Perhaps he understands it s just not something I'm used to doing.
"Well in any case, what would you like for dinner?"
"To be perfectly honest, I'm not very hungry. I don't tend to eat much at night." I explain.
He nods, "understandable. A full stomach can make sleep restless. In that case I'll leave you to get settled. Should you need me just come find me on the main floor, my office is directly across from the main bar." He says before he gives me a light bow and heads out the door, leaving me to my thoughts.
I sit on the edge of my bed and look around the room. How did I get here?
